Trip Type: Family Review 1 of 51Love this place
We have stayed in this hotel about 6 times. It is very family friendly and my teenage kids really enjoy it. It is very close to Universal Studios. The pool is awesome. It is very laid back and not stuffy at all. If you're looking for a 5 star hotel, this is not it. It's comfortable and affordable. The restaurant has great specials and the food is tasty. I don't stay anywhere else when visting that area of California!

Trip Type: Family Review 4 of 51Great Location
Staff was friendly - desk clerks very helpful. Room was spotless! Each day the room was picked up and new towels brought in. Spent four nights - no complaints!

Trip Type: Family Review 5 of 51A Down-to-Earth Fine Place to Stay
If you take a composite index of the hotel's convenient location (near all kinds of stores for a sandwich, a special meal, or some personal item you need, or whatever), accessible to all roads to get where you need to go each day, the fine staff and the functional, clean, good facilities, and price, you come up with this hotel at the top of the ranking. The pool is great, their breakfast patio coffee shop is fine, the room is nice and clean, the halls are clean and quiet, and everything is just what anyone could want--especially if you are not prepared to pay umpteen hundreds of dollars per day for a room. I will definitely be booking my rooms at this place every future trip I take to LA (and since my son and his family live there, it should be reasonably often that I will do so).

Trip Type: Family Review 6 of 51Need to clean better
Our 11month old daughter found a low dose aspirin by the bed...not ours...on the 1st day, so we were not happy. I called the front desk and they send a person to vacuum again but I was still uneasy and felt the overall cleanliness was horrible...our daughters feet were also black on the tops when we let her crawl on the floor in the room.

Trip Type: Family Review 7 of 51Enjoyable Stay
We were very satisfied with our recent stay at the Sportmen's Lodge. It's very centrally located to all the major attractions with convenient stops for public transportation. The room was quite comfortable. The kids enjoyed the pool every night. Staff was friendly and helpful. The only thing we were not aware of until we checked out was that although they offer WiFi, it is not free! Overall, great stay!

Trip Type: Family Review 8 of 51Great staff and food in a shabby-chic and run-down setting
While the staff is outstanding and the food at the little restaurant was excellent, the physical plant is pretty shabby, out-of-date, and run down. The exception - a lovely, large, old-style swimmming pool and beautiful surrounding trees and landscaping. This almost made up for the paper-thin walls, stained and worn-out carpet, and decor in serious need of upgrading. I'd probably stay here again because of the very convenient central location and shabby-chic "charm", but be prepared to switch rooms several times to find one that's marginally acceptable.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 51If Customer Service is Important, Stay Here.
What can I say but great comfortable room, staff was excellent, pool and cafe's on-site were so helpful. Upper levels quiet as younger crowd stays on lower levels for amusment parks so close. Can't say enough about convience and staff. Room was comfortable but be aware of additional parking and internet charges. All in all, will stay here again!!!

Trip Type: Family Review 12 of 51Good Room For the Money
I stayed for 3 nights, and aside form the noisy neighbors the first night, I had a restful stay here. Pros: Good location Affordable & spacious (except for the bathroom) Friendly staff Comfortable bed Large pool On-site restaraunt Cons: Shower did not drain well No fan in the bathroom Carpet was stained Furnishings were old Extra fee for parking Hot tub wasn't working properly I will probably stay here again.

Trip Type: Family Review 13 of 51A little of old Hollywood in a convenient location
Would definitely stay here again! Rooms were spotless, comfy beds, excellent maid service. This hotel is in renovation (the restaurant for example was closed when we visited), but the updated areas are very fresh. The pool reminded me of hawaii, with palm & banana trees, poolside bar and restaurant service. The location is extremely convenient (on Coldwater Canyon, so a hop over the mountains to Bel Air and B. Hills), and near Laurel Canyon (hop over to Hollywood). Only a block or two off 101 also. Inflatable swans in the pool really made the "feeling" of the place!

Trip Type: Family Review 14 of 51old fashioned but reasonable
staff was very nice, helpful and courteous. I did not like the $10/night parking and the $10/day internet fee, though (i think it should be disclosed before you book). very convenient to Universal Studios. Last free shuttle back to hotel does leave Universal Studios too early so that you cannot stay til closing or stay after for the City Walk shopping and dining, etc. carpet needs replacing in room. they did give a us a suite which was very roomy but in smoking side so especially hallway was very stink with smoke. exercise room is small but ok.
