Arrived at the Kaua'i Sands after a very, very long day of work, packing, rushing, travel, and delays after landing. When I saw the outside of the hotel from the street I was disappointed and upset. However, after deciding it wouldn't work to sleep in the car, I went to the front desk. The staff members on duty were fabulous. I couldn't wrestle my luggage up the stairs, so they changed my room right away and even offered to assist with the bags. I was delighted to discover that although the exterior isn't exciting and the hallways look shabby, the room itself (with two double beds) was spacious, colorful, clean, and the lanai roomy. Every staff member I met - without exception - was polite, helpful, and freely shared smiles and the aloha spirit. For anyone seeking the Ritz, the Kauai Sands won't cut it, but for folks looking for a good deal, a large clean room, a location that provides shopping and dining within walking distance, and a good launching point for travel on the west or east side of the island, give the Kauai Sands a chance.

It's not 5 star luxury but if you are just looking for a place to sleep it's a nice bargain compared to some of the others. The decor is a bit out dated but the staff are friendly and it worked for my needs.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 9Old Hotel - but great location
This hotel is very old and low end. The price is great, but you'd be better off paying the same or a tad more and staying in a rental home, condo or other facility. The area is run down and this is a rough section of beach.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 9Fair price gets you on Kauai
I don't spend much time hanging out at hotels, especially on Kauai. I'm out and about the island and in the water. That's why I look for a moderately priced stay in a central location. That's the big plus Kauai Sands has, price and location. It does have a nice beach and the room was clean and well appointed. Overall the hotel seems outdated in an area of Kapaa that needs renovation from it's bygone era and some neglect. Kapaa town echoes the hotel this way but does have its good eating choices throughout the town along the highway. For me being a relatively short country drive away to the north shore area of the island and not too far if I wanted to explore the south and west shores too.

Trip Type: Business Review 8 of 9OK room for location
The Sands is an older hotel that could use a facelift. It is atarting to show it's age. Very friendly staff. What made up for the cost of the room (upgrade on arrival) is the location. Fair restaurant with limited hours but the bar was shut down. Grounds are well kept but parking can be a struggle. Would probably stay there again.
