Sandcastle Oceanfront Resort Hotel

Satisfying stay - As expected for an older Virginia Beach hotel.

This is an older hotel that hasn't seen much renovation, but it certainly met our expectations for a weekend beach stay. Oceanfront balcony space is adequate to relax and our room was comfortable and clean. Lobby and hallways are drab and there is a weird atrium mall area that is straight out of the 70s. Staff was pleasant and the included breakfast had a good selection and was served in a nicely renovated breakfast room.

Great view for the price

Was overall satisfied with the experience. Awesome price for oceanfront top floor king sized! Balcony seemed a tad small for me, but good view of the heart of the Stip to Rudee Inlet. Room was an upgrade at no extra charge! (The trip was in the off season and capacity maybe 60%??) Thick walls added to quiet. Service was friendly and warm, and free coffee 24/7 in the lobby was a comfort as the weather got chillier. Close to eateries and shopping within a few blocks. Pool area looked well maintained and most of the lobby and first floor are a small mall of sorts. Parking ramps and floors were tight even when deserted, a larger vehicle should use caution. I definitely recommend this as a tight family income getaway spot.

Sand in the bed

Not very clean...there was sand in the bed when we arrived! Also weird bathroom set up

Great location

The hotel has great ocean views and is rigth next to the pier and 'amusement' area and rides. Given the location, it is still quiet for the most part. The hotel could use a make-over but the staff was nice. Would stay there again.

poor performance

we would not recommend. The hotel did not feel clean, the rooms were old and needed work, there was water damage in our room where the wallpaper was falling off the wall, airconditioning could not be adjusted, fan in bathroom was loud and did not do anything to decrease humidity in that room -- very dirty, beds were hard, the pillows were terrible -- glad we were there for only one night. would not recommend to anyone very dissatisfied for the money we spent.

Great Location

I have stayed in this hotel before.. Great location right on the beach. Rooms were clean. Staff was great!!I will always come back.

Excelllent location and great ocean view.

My husband and I went for three days and were totally thrilled with the location and amenities of the hotel. The room itself is a bit dreary and could use some updating and better lighting but it was clean and had what we needed. The free continental breakfast was a wonderful perk. We will definitely look to stay here again if the price is reasonable. The location on the boardwalk is wonderful and there it was a [leasure to sit on the balcony and watch the bike riders and the ocean.

nice hotel

It was a nice hotel - rooms were fine, nothing special, but nice. The location is good - right in the middle of everything, near restaurants, right on the beach. Breakfast is ok - not many healthy choices - lots of sugary thngs. I would stay there again.

Great hotel

It has wonderful views and it was a reasonable price! The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The continental breakfast wasn't too bad either. They had cereal, bagels mini donuts and muffins. I will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Great Stay

The hotel was very clean and well kept. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom appeared to have recently remodeled. It was very nice. All the hotel staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.

"Older Hotel, but SO WHAT?!"

We really enjoyed our stay. We loved the beachfront room with a balcony that we sat on and watched the beach & boardwalk, from dusk til late night. The room didn't have a coffee pot in it, but since my husband works for a coffee company, he understands the cost it would be have one. We were really surprised to have a refrigerator in our room. The staff was very nice. As we were eating our breakfast, a staff member came in the room and said a nice "good morning" to the room in general. I thought that was real nice. They also kept the dining area clean and refilled the food. Nice job!!
