The hotel was adequate for our needs. Our room was supposed to have a stove, but did not. None of the soda machines worked, but there were plenty of functioning ice machines. The hookers outside on the street made for some interesting atmosphere. Short walk to the beach so the location was convienent. Showers were pleasantly consistant with temperature.

The hotel needs some basic improvements. However, given the location it is a good deal for the money.

Trip Type: Family Review 6 of 49Great room for the money
Great room for the money but needs improvement and renovation. The carpet was dirty and the hotel pool was bad, but the location was great. Near everything. Only three hotels down from the beach!!!

Overall a good hotel. Everyone was very helpful. Very convenient to everything in Waikiki. Less than a minute from the bus stop. Less than 5 min. from the beach. Comfortable room with a fridge, micro, toaster, etc. Only neg. was the water took a little while to heat up in the morning.

Not a 4 star hotel, more like 1.5 but thats what I expected for the price. Beds were old, Hotel was old and worn. same as rooms but clean and we didnt see any bugs for our 5 day stay. However we paid for a little better room in the Pali towers not the cheapest room they had, but also not their best. It was in the middle price range they had. Since I had read guest reviews on Hotels.com I knew what to expect. Noone ever gives tips on preparation for your trip so here are some tips to help enjoy your trip a little better when staying at an old 1.5 star hotel in Waikiki. This is what I did: Bring some cheap plastic bedliners that you get at Walmart to encase your mattress so if your bed does have bedbugs there is a barrier, We didnt take that chance to find out if there were. Also I brought my own sheets to sleep on. We brought with us from home. The carpet was old but did not have musty smell like in the reviews I read, and I wore my flip flops when walking on it. Hotel staff was helpful and knowledgeable about places to eat and entertainment. Perfect location to the beach, trolley and Bus. This was our first vacation to Waikiki and we really enjoyed it. But I would really like to commend Hotels.com. Since I am an airline worker and I have to fly standby I did not book this room until five minutes before I checked in, and the Hotels.com agent I talked to (wish I could remember her name) Booked this hotel for me in record time. Hotels.com found me a great price for this hotel and I will definitely use them again when I book a hotel the next time. they even helped me extend my vacation by one day without any trouble and we got to keep the same room we were already in. Except for me being dumb and falling asleep at the pool and getting sunburn, my vacation was a complete success, Thankyou Ocean Resort, and a big Thankyou to Hotels.com.

Interior was old & dated but clean. Did not have basic amenities like coffee maker. Parking is expensive and a hassle with cars double-parked and no allocated spaces. Overall, good value for money considering location.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 49Reasonable price and good location
My overall stay was satisfying. The hotel definitely shows a lot of wear and tear but the room was large and decently comfortable. We had a car which we parked in the hotel using the valet service which was very friendly but could sometimes get busy taking quite awhile to get your car when you wanted it. The location is great, just two very short blocks from the beach and also a block away from Kapahulu Ave. which made driving in and out of Waikiki super easy. If your looking for a decent base to explore Oahu and Waikiki and not expecting too many frills, I would recommend this hotel.

Outdated, dirty, unmaintained. Pool area astrograss torn and needing replacement. Cleaning staff unpredictable in cleaning times - entering room early morning before we could leave and cleaning around us or not coming until very late in day. Very minimal cleaning done - beds were made, but bathroom not cleaned.

Trip Type: Family Review 13 of 49This is a hotel with a good location but is a no frills place to stay
The location of the hotel was as describe. Everything was either an easy walk or the bus picked up and dropped at the corner. The staff were helpful and friendly but the room needs some updates. The size was large and the view was good. We were traveling with our 2 teenage daughters and as we discussed we used the room for sleeping mostly and that worked for us just fine.

Trip Type: Family Review 14 of 49Great for the money, especially for location
This is a great hotel for the money in an excellent Waikiki location, close to beach (about a three minute walk), shops, restaurants, the zoo, and a block from the bus stop. Rooms are relatively spacious. We were also able to hook up to wireless internet. This is not a luxury luxury hotel with granite bathroom counters and expensive bottled spring water (I've stayed in those too), just bang for the buck. The little kitchenette we had is very basic- yet it is helpful to have a small frig and microwave and some utensils, etc., especially with a teenager along. The small terraces are pleasant and our "ocean view" was there and serene. I could see the waves etc. though one is not right at the beach, remember, and at least a couple of tall buildings are part of the view (but not to me in a bothersome way). We did not have time to watch TV- one can get movies on demand- though the hotel does not yet seem to have the large flat screen TV's that are gaining popularity, possibly a negative to some. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly, always knew directions, always had an answer to questions.

Trip Type: Family Review 15 of 49A picture is not worth one word
The hotel pictures are very deceiving and as for the rooms, they are falling apart at the seams. The more you inspect the worst it gets. Window slates in the restroom leave little to the neighbors imagination not to mention the slamming noise they made during the night. First night hotel room was a nightmare, the kids woke up feeling sick from wind entering through the bathroom window and the giant opening under the front room door. The next night we requested another room and were we accommodated with a better room but was still not what was pictured. Tons of street noise, close to nothing if you did not rent a car and neighborhood seemed really uneasy and unsettling at night. Thumbs way down!! My advise to you, stay away from the Castle.
