The Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach

Great place to stay if you don't need an internet connection...

Overall great experience with one notable exception: The hotel advertises "free high-speed internet". Translation: Ethernet cable at the table on one side of the room (no wireless) that gives dial-up comparable speeds when its working, and its spotty even then. We were at the hotel for 5 days - 3 of those days I could not connect at all, and the 2 days I could connect, it bumped me off every couple minutes. I did call the lobby when it didn't work and they were very friendly and sent someone up to tell me that their service was down. All this to say - if you have to have an internet connection or need to be able to VPN back to the office (as I did) - then i recommend somewhere else. Before I stayed here, i noticed 2 things that came up in reviews repeatedly, so i thought I'd address them if it could help someone who'd also wondering about them. The 2 things were: Very thin walls/noise from hall or rooms -and- slow elevator. 1. Thin walls - yes, we did notice this, but it didn't seem as bad as some of the reviewers made it. You could definitely hear hallway noise pretty well, and room-next-door noise kind of, but it wasn't enough to bother us. If you're easily annoyed by things like this, then you might take note of this, but otherwise i don't think it'll be a big deal. If you end up with a room full of partyers next door, then you may have to ask for a room switch. 2. Slow Elevator. Hmmm. No. There are 3 elevators and my wife and I on more than one occasion were surprised at how fast they are. I mean really fast. I can only assume the hotel fixed this issue, because i just can't see how anyone could call those things slow. I actually witnessed people missing the elevator because the doors open so fast and if you're not walking in - Boom - they're closed and up 15 floors in like 4 seconds. Excellent accommodations

Stayed 3 nights last week. Ground Zero for beach and street activities. Was actually pleasantly suprised our "City view" room had a very good ocean view from our lanai. And excellent view of street and mountains. Room was clean, staff was very friendly and helpful, and made you feel like it was a vacation. On site eating choices excellent and varied. Bathroom was really small, and had a little issue w/thermostat control one night, but certainly not a deal breaker. We were very satisfied with the Outrigger.

Stay on the North Shore

My wife and I were disappointed in this hotel. All the hotels on Waikiki were on top of each other, and your balcony could easily look into your neighboring hotels balcony. The beach itself was crowded, the pool area looks like a motel pool, and the rooms had paper thin walls that could hear every noise from the hallway or next door. It seemed they had 2 elevators for the entire building. There were times when we felt we were on South Beach and not Waikiki with all the Neon Lights, Cabs and People in the Street. My wife and I drove to the North Shore, and that felt much more like a vacation... we wish we had enough warning not to stay on Waikiki, and instead, book a resort on the North Shore. If you are coming from Maui, be ready for a shock... it is very crowded and conjested on the South Side as any large city on the mainland around Waikiki.

OK, all things considered

The location is great, right on the sand and close to shops, restaurants, etc. The service was substandard for a "high-end" hotel. We had a city view room and it was a bit noisy, traffic noise and the room walls are very thin so if you have a noisy neighbor you will hear them. They gave us bottled water the first day but then not after that (cheap!) We had to call down to get more coffee cups and then they did not arrive. The maid service was not good. She did a minimal clean up. If we did not throw things away then she did not clean up. We still might stay there in the future but we will look around.

The best Valentine's day ever!

I've heard so many outstanding things about this hotel. I picked it because I wanted something in the heart of Waikiki, near the beach, and a place I knew would provide good service. I liked how valet costs were added to the room, and they hold your bags for you if you arrive too early or your room is ready yet. So yes, we early for another engagment so expectedly our room wasn't ready for us and they didn't have anymore rooms with a single queen size bed. So we actually got upgraded to a better room with twin queens for no additional cost! It was absolutely beautiful even for a partial-ocean view. At night we sat out on our balcony and listened to the live concert from the hotel across the street from us. It was so relaxing! Expect to pay for movies, video games, etc. just like all hotels. Surrounding shopping and in-hotel restaurants will keep you occupied. Service and quality of this hotel was incredible! I plan to come back for anniversaries =)

outstanding hotel

Room was above average with nice view. Service of all of the staff outstanding. three good restauarants in hotel. Perfect location on the beach. Great Concierge who was super helpful. This place is fantastically managed. Will definitely go back. No weaknesses that I could find.

Perfect Waikiki Location

My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend (4 nights) in January and had a great time. The hotel's central location on Waikiki is very convenient, both from a walking the beach standpoint and a shopping standpoint. I have to say, being right on the beach, vs. walking across the street or walking a few blocks, was really, really nice! We were next door to the Royal Hawaiian open air shopping mall and the Cheesecake Factory, which doesn't really interest me in regards to food, but they tend to have great live Hawaiian music shows for free. We also walked to Rainbow Drive In, away from the touristy strip, for some fabulous local food. Chili rice, anyone? Yum! All the hotel staff we encountered from the moment of arrival to our departure were very nice - the aloha spirit is alive here! It was also nice to have Duke's and the Hula Grill right in the hotel. Duke's seemed to have musical entertainment most every night. Sometimes more traditional Hawaiian music, sometimes a happy hour party on the patio with a little more rockin' music. The deal we had included breakfast at our choice of Duke's or Hula Grill (sister restaurants) and they were both good. My only "complaint" is that we were trying to be eco-conscious and re-use our bath towels, (we hung them up to indicate such as the hotel suggested) but the woman tending to our room kept replacing them each day anyway! But I think she was just trying to be nice.

Great staff but rooms need work

We had to look at 6 rooms before we found one that was acceptable. All smelled damp but the higher up you went the better it got. The staff were great though and worked through our issue with us to find us a good room. Walking out of the hotel onto the beach is a real plus.

Outstanding Hotel

I loved the location of this Hotel The rooms and the beach were beautiful. Shopping was great. No need for a car. Duke's food was great and the sunset spectacular!
