Trip Type: Business Review 1 of 31Good location, bad hotel
We stayed at the Monarch for a convention. The rooms were cramped, dirty, and "sticky."

Trip Type: Business Review 2 of 31needs improvement
Most reviews online about the Hotel physical condition are accurate. I feel that the hotel owner could spend some money to improve the physical condition with a slight increase of the rate. For example, the sink in my room seemed a bit clogged so sometimes I had to wait for the water to drain when I was washing my hands. A small amount of water from the shower somehow got onto the floor even though I had carefully cover the bathtub surrounding with the shower curtain. These are the areas (especially in the bathroom) that the hotel can improve much more.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 31No more wireless
They have done away with free wireless internet which was only available in the lobby anyway. They now have Clearwire which they charge for.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 31Ok for a quick business trip
Considering the price I paid, I did not have high expectations for this hotel. The room was small, but not horrible. The most annoying thing (aside from there not being an alarm clock in the room) was that the shower curtain was not weighted and each time I showered the curtain would blow and stick to me and the showered head kept popping out of it's holder and sprayed everywhere. Also, the room did not have an additional deadbolt or chain so anyone with the keycard could have gotten in during the night...so I propped a chair against the door as a precaution. The location of the hotel was nice as it was in close proximity to the convention center. It was an ok place for a quick business trip, but if I was going for a vacation I would definitely want to stay at a nicer hotel.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 31Good Location
The hotel is in a good location if you are attending conferences at the Convention Center. It is a short walk maybe 5-10 minutes. For the money you spend it is hard to expect any more from the hotel. Also, there are no alarm clocks in the room. Better choices for places to eat near hotel.

Trip Type: Business Review 7 of 31Generally good for what you pay for
I return to this hotel time and again while on business because it's a no-nonsense, low frills place. What I enjoy about it is the price vs. location (some of my favorite places to meet people are all within walking distance). If you're planning on staying in a hotel for any length of time and prefer first class ammenities, however, you're probably looking for another place. Consider the price and know the staff is very good at making the stay as comfy as possible. Parking is additional, but also among the least expensive at $12 per day.

Trip Type: Business Review 8 of 31Try a different hotel, this one will not be what you expect
The hotel property is in need of desperate improvement. In fact, the bath/shower curtain does not fit the shower. As a result, the shower sprays all over the floor and counters causing a big mess. The bedding is uncomfortable and overly used to the point it should be discarded. The property can be a bit frightful at night, as it draws a crowd to the downstairs bar and the pizza joint that claims to serve "pimpin hot pizza." I used quotes here to identify this is exact wording on the outside of the restaurant. I believe the old saying "caveat empter" fits well in the context of this property.

Trip Type: Business Review 12 of 31Satisfactory
Relatively basic room; daily room service. Parking garage not owned by hotel; operator accepts cash only. Ownership of facility changed May 1, 2008. Convenient location in Waikiki; near Hawaiian Convention Center, Fort DeRussey.
