Trip Type: Family Review 2 of 32Great Hotel!
We had never been to the Outer Banks and booked online. So we weren't sure what to expect. The location of Nags Head was great and we loved the Owen's Hotel. It was very clean and we liked having a full kitchen. It was great sitting on the deck and watching the ocean! And the beach was perfect for long walks. The service at the hotel was very friendly and helpful with any questions. I will deffinatly be going back next year.

Trip Type: Family Review 3 of 32Relatively inexpensive for the area, but...
Disappointing. We arrived at about 10:30 PM and since the office had already closed (which surprised me a little for a Friday night during peak season) and our key was in an envelope taped to the door (along with three other envelopes). The room did not have a phone, but was in decent condition. Overall, the motel was run down. Although they had spent some money in the courtyard part of the hotel encasing the overhang support columns in drivit, the maids had damaged all of them with the cleaning carts. We were out of the room all day Saturday and when we returned, we found that the cleaning people had not pulled the door closed and we did not need a key to get back in. I doubt that I would stay there again.

Trip Type: Family Review 4 of 32Nice Beach Motel, will use again.
We selected this motel because of its location and beach access as it sits right on the beach. There is a restaurant right across the street and two others less that a 5 minute walk away. There is a 7-11 and a local grocery store also about a 5 minute walk. We were going to stay for 3 days, but work called and would not give me Monday off. The motel adjusted our reservation without any hassle. They also were able to upgrade us to a king size bed instead of two doubles. The room was clean and very comfortable. We did not spend a lot of time in the room since we came for the beach. The showers had plenty of water pressure and hot water. The beds, sheets, pillows, and mattress were very clean. We did not see one bug in the room. The porch was nice to sit on with a constant ocean breeze. There were no pesky bugs outside. Well be back again.

Trip Type: Family Review 5 of 32Not for families
Our room carpet was damp upon arrival and stayed damp the 3 days that we stayed there. Our bath tub did not drain when we showered and there were "white" flies all in the bathroom. For the price that we paid we would have expected complimentary shampoos and coffee. They did have a coffee maker but nothing came with it. We had 3 people registered to our room and room service only left 2 towels and 1 wash cloth. The hotel pool was attached to the restraunt, so while people were walking in and out going to dinner they could see us and it was very uncomfortable. All in all I do not recommend this hotel for longer than 1 night stay. And expect not to be able to park by your room on weekends. I have stayed in quite a few hotels and this has to be the worst.

Trip Type: Family Review 6 of 32You get what you pay for
I stayed one night at the Owens Motel oceanside with my two small children. It was the perfect location for us. The hotel staff and guests were very kind and helpful. No problems with loud guests or slow drains in our bathroom (as other reviews noted). The room is small, nothing fancy and does not have a telephone. There is also a musty type odor, but nothing overpowering. The room was clean and perfect for night/morning time on the beach. You get what you pay for. I thought it was was a great rate and would stay again.

Trip Type: Family Review 7 of 32Pros and Cons
Owens Motel is an older motel, thus the older room carpeting, bathroom fixtures, furniture were expected. If you're looking for luxury, this is definitely not the place to stay. However, if you're looking for a quiet place that is relatively cheap, with no major concerns, Owens is fine. The AC unit was a little loud at first, but we became accustomed to it. Also, the shower stall is extremely small, the smallest I've seen, but the base was clean and the water gets hot, which is more important to me personally. We were there Mon-Thu, so it was rather quiet. Rooms on both sides of us were occupied, however we didn't hear our neighbors at all. The staff at the front desk was very courteous and recommended a couple nice breakfast places.

Although an older motel, Owen's was clean, had a friendly staff and great access to the beach.

Trip Type: Family Review 9 of 32Good room for the money
Room was clean, plenty of towels and extra pillows. AC worked well. Rooms quiet enough we did not hear adjoining rooms.Older but well maintained. Only issues were small: drain in tub would not close, no coffee for coffee machine.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 32Nice, Basic Motel
The Owens Motel was perfect for our two-night stay in Nag's Head. Our room was small but clean. Pillows were not great but didn't keep me awake. The Motel staff were friendly and helpful. We had the pool to ourselves twice. We stayed in the west complex which was right across the street from the ocean. We could walk a few hundred feet to shops. The Owen's Motel Restaraunt served delicious food in an old-fashioned atmosphere. Although it was a bit pricey the service was warm and friendly. We were stuffed but made room for a shared dessert.

Trip Type: Family Review 12 of 32Overall Conditions
We were very disappointed with our room. There was a coffee maker, but no coffee or cups. No tissues. The lamp between the beds didn't work because there was no outlet in which to plug it in. The shower drain was plugged. After 15 seconds in the shower, the water started to back up. After a 3 minute shower, we were standing in 3 inches of drain water. The sink drain was the same way. The sink plunger was inoperable. The curtain rod was broken and inoperable. The air conditioner was very noisy. To get to the bathroom you went through 8 inches of space between the wall and bed or you could go over the bed, I suppose.
