Trip Type: With Friends Review 1 of 17Depends on your travel obectives...
My intent was to visit friends and experience the night life of Hermosa Beach which was not a true walking distance as they stated and it is located along the edge of Redondo (not the nicest area), the hotel is cute yet tucked away off the road behind a row of restaurants, the rooms are small (bathroom was bigger than the room) and when they charge extra for a view of the marina/ocean it means you must be standing outside to see it... I would recommend spending half the price at the crowne plaza across the street

Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 17Great price for the location
We enjoyed our stay at Portofino, which claims to be the only hotel in California actually on the water so great views are virtually assured, although ours was largely blocked by the hotel's restaurant. Of course parking is minimal, costly & extra which is not surprising given the location. Loved the nautical theme & beds very comfy.

Loud music all night into morning coming from restaurant; put coffee/tea pots in rooms, or offer complimentary tea as well as coffee; view from the lobby out window to harbor is Fabulous!; Great decorator; would go again

Trip Type: With Friends Review 8 of 17Beautiful Hotel on Marina
The Portofino is beautiful. From the moment you walk in the lobby is warm and inviting. My room was a marina side view. The room had 2 double beds, and a little small which was more than made up for by the quality of the furnishings and the cleanliness. The rooms are very well decorated, and the bathroom was complete with the best of all features -- a rain shower head.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 9 of 17Order Room Service!
The hotel was quaint, and the ocean-side room is worth the extra cost. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the bathroom was elegant and spacious. Most noteworthy was the breakfast we ordered for room service. The salmon omelet was quite simply the best meal I have ever had for breakfast. Get it. The proximity of the hotel to the airport was also nice, given that we landed at LAX right at rush hour.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 10 of 17Overall Good Hotel
We enjoyed the hotel very much - it was nice to be able to park the car and utilize the hotel property. The pool was smaller than we thought it would be but the beach was close by. Dinner reservations were made for 7:30pm, we arrived a few minutes late and had to wait 20+ minutes for our table at Balen, they had a large birthday party in the room so we felt it was because of that. It was nice that they offer a complimentary appetizer as part of your room stay. Overall, we loved it. We took a long bike ride on Sunday down the beach. Bikes could use a little maintenance, my handlebars kept slipping.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 11 of 17Excellent Hotel !!
I have been traveling for 20 years..This hotel was a 4.8 star! The service and attention to detail was 5 star. The hotel is surrounded by water, boats, and fantastic restaurants and bars. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 17Outstanding!
My friend and I stayed at the Portofino for one week, and it was one of the best places we have ever stayed at! We had a ground floor ocean view room, and watched the boats go past all day-not just a standard view, it was full water view from left to right! Room was very clean, and the beds were comfy too (!!). The staff was extremely friendly, there is a fireplace lobby that is cozy and classy, and they have a business room with computers and a printer. I highly recommend this hotel if you are a water lover. However, there are sea lions out on the ocean view side that make a lot of noise, but the hotel provides ear plugs for you. We didn't mind it at all being animal lovers.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 13 of 17Doesn't live up to expectations
The Portofino was absolutely beautiful, the location was nestled between the marina and the Pacific Ocean. However, the hotel staff was not helpful with any questions I had, upon arrival the room was not cleaned very well, and on the second day the maid did not clean or make the beds or replace towels! Yet, she did make sure to take note of what had been taken out of the mini bar! Overall, the only reason to stay at this hotel is for the view and location.
