Trip Type: Special Event Review 3 of 59Great hoel
We really enjoyed our stay, especially the complimentary use of the bicycles. We had 2 great rids along the beach and enjoyed the local restaurants, which were all walking distance. The hotel was clean and quiet, and the room was big. Very enjoyable.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 4 of 59Go to be pampered...Great hotel for the money
I had a ball; I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! My first pleasant experience came when I called ahead to confirm my request for a DVD in my Marina View room. I was told that DVDs are standard in the Ocean View rooms but not Marina. However, I was not only assured my request was noted; I was given a complimentary upgrade to an Ocean View room at no additional charge to insure that I'd have the DVD!!! It was a very basic one DVD player with only three buttons, Power, Play and Stop -- but I gave it quite a workout with my DVDs and CDs. My second thrill came when I saw my room. It was small, but very clean and smartly dressed in an elegant nautical theme; complete with everything I needed to be totally comfortable. The bathroom was absolutely beautiful and I've never slept in a more comfortable bed in my life. Down comforters, cozy quilt and soft pillows – half feather, half down. Yum! Finally, I had determined before my stay that I'd rest completely and order room service as much as possible for my meals. Well, The Baleen accommodated me graciously and served me some of the prettiest, tastiest food I have ever eaten at a hotel!! I gained 5 pounds easily! Everything from the rainfall-like shower head, to the private bar and fully stocked refrigerator...and of course the Ocean view...made my week-long stay a completely restful and luxurious one. I lived like a rock star – on a budget! I will definitely be coming back. It will be my guilty pleasure, hopefully, annually. And about the staff -- they were great. The bellboy practically carried me from my car to my room with all my bags when I arrived. One call brought help again when I left. And every time I called for this or that during my stay, to either to the Hotel or the Baleen staff, they actually thanked me for giving them something to do. The only drawbacks for me were that (A) everything in the private bar had a price tag, plus service charge and tax. You're tempted to consume because it's right there at your fin

Trip Type: Special Event Review 5 of 59great setting, great service
our wonderful visit started with check in by the fabulous Nathan, who treated us with charm and wit. After a very long drive from the San Francisco area, what could have been tedious, was fun and quick because of his great personality. He would continue to make our stay a pleasure with great service like remembering our names to complimentary night time glasses of milk for my daughter and myself. The room was immaculate with extremely soft sheets and even enough down pillows for me. There were wonderful touches in the room such as an iPod alarm clock, complimentary robes, a furnished balcony, free in-room WiFi, and a shower head that felt as though you were standing in a spring rain. Room service was prompt and reasonably priced - the coffee was excellent. One of the loveliest features of this hotel is the inviting and airy main room/lobby. The reason for our visit was a family birthday, and the lobby made it possible for us all to return to the hotel for a night cap in front of the fireplace while the open windows overlooking the harbor allowed in the summer sea breeze. With the comfortable array of wing-back chairs, sofas, foot stools, and club chairs, it felt like home - with excellent service and no worries about the clean up! We all gathered in the same lobby, now sun streaked, the following morning to head out for breakfast. Much better than everyone trying to cram into a hotel room while waiting for the whole group to arrive and be ready. We enjoyed our stay so much that my daughter and I have made a pact to make an annual trip to The Portofino - maybe even without telling the rest of the family!

THE PORTOFINO IS A BEAUTIFUL HOTEL SETTING..THE ONLY PROBLEMS WE FOUND WERE NO FULL LENGTH MIRRORS IN ANY OF THE ROOMS AND THE LIGHTING IN THE BATHROOM AND ROOM WAS NO GOOD AT ALL. THE AMENTITIES WERE WONDERFUL .

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 9 of 59Excellent quality, beatiful decor
Decor exceeded my expectations. Location right by marina is lovely - didnt' see any bad rooms - some look out to sea, some onto the marina. We had a marina view room which was very nice - just gorgeous decor. Reminds me of great decor in the Kimpton hotels.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 13 of 59Slightly Used Room
I arrived late, so wasn't too disappointed at the missing valet or parking service....but when I was told the hotel was 'sold out' I was asked to wait for a while until a room could be found. The room they found had been used. The TV was on, the bathroom supplies had already been broken into, and there were a few old magazines left on the bed. I was so tired I just went to sleep. When I mentioned all of the above to the front desk in the morning, I got no response - just a bogus charge for valet parking. I will NOT be back.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 15 of 59Exceptional Hotel
Particularly appreciated amenities ... complementary bicycles, great supply of food and refreshments (for a cost) in the room, nice decor different from most hotel chains. Bed exceptionally comfortable and unusual high quality of bedding. The only unhappy surprise was the undisclosed (as far as we were aware) self-parking fee of $18.
