Affinia 50 Hotel

Nice Midtown Boutique Hotel

The Affina 50 is a small, well appointed boutique hotel located in a nice neighborhood, with plenty of restaurants, bakeries, and small shops. The room I had was large, for NYC and modern. Hotel was quiet, and windows were well insulated from street noise. I would stay there again.

To be fair, my dissatisfaction with stay may have been specific to my room and I was too exhausted and rushed to ask for a room change, so the hotel staff had no chance to remedy the situation. That said, my room had a foot tall "slit" of window feet above eye-level which looked out on a brick wall. Even in the middle of the day, there was virtually no natural light in the room. Also, there was a problem with the heat-the room was never below around seventy eight degrees. It seems this was an old problem, as a noisy and inneffective box fan was conspicuously displayed. Everything else was lovely and the staff very kind, but nothing could make up for feeling like I was trapped in a hot, windowless dungeon.

Excellent Accomodations

We were extremely satisfied with all aspects of the hotel. The one bedroom suite is very roomy and comfortable. The staff was accomodating to all requests, suggestions and directions. It was a reasonable walk to 5th Ave., Central Park and Times Square. The neighborhood was good. We would definitely stay again.

Location! Location!

Reasonably priced hotel in a fantastic location. Very convenient to most places you need to get to.

good location, great if you want a kitchenette

Good location at 50th near 3rd avenue. Comfortable sized room. No problems with the service.

Good location on east side

Three star and even four star NY hotel rooms tend to be small and cramped, so it was a pleasant surprise to find the Affinia room of a reasonable size with a proper bathroom. I'll definitely stay there again.

Good value but contradicting and confusing on extras and luxury

The room was nice enough and there were a couple of brochures or cards in the room about offers for special types of pillows or a robe and such but it was unclear whether there was any extra charge for these items. I never got around to calling the front desk to inquire. Also, they carry Aveda products in the bathroom which is really nice but the towels were small, old, and scratchy.

great room for the money

good location,small hotel, but the rooms werelarge for New York standards. the employees were very pleasant and helpful whenever we needed anything. I would stay there again and recommend it, if I could get the same rates next time.

Good hotel for business travel

It is a bit cheaper than some other options, and geared more towards a younger audience than the Benjamin next door. Room was fine in all respects except the technology was a bit dated. No flatscreen TV, etc.

Good but not worth the price

The hotel is quiet, well arranged, comfortable, and for the city, spacious. The location is great if you came to shop, not so great for Broadway. The amenities do not rate the half star added to the three. They are basic. The beds/pillows are very nice, and added to the quiet, conducive to a good night's sleep. The internet listings suggest that it is possible to purchase the room with breakfast. I was told at the desk that that is never possible, and breakfast is $15 plus tax. In fact, there are no "included" amenities.

Everything but the fur bathrobe

I truly felt just like Hotels.com commercial--the room exceeded my expectations. Most rooms in Times Square in early May were 40-50 percent more than I paid here, yet I am sure I got similar--or better--amenities. My room was a reasonable size with very comfortable and luxuriously appointed bed. In addition to the lamps on the nightstands there are adjustable reading lamps on the headboard. Even a "menu" of six pillow choices if you didn't like the down and feather that were in the room on check-in. Bath has nice towels, Aveda toiletries, and lighted make-up mirror. The windows were modern yet opened if you wanted fresh air. Bedside CD player/radio/alarm. My favorite amenity is the Club Room--think the Admirals Club or Red Carpet Club for hotel guests. The Club Room has a sitting room with fireplace, big screen TVs, board games, books about NYC, newspapers, and wireless internet. There is a small business center attached where you can print boarding passes or check your email. In the morning, an expanded continental breakfast was served in the Club Room for a reasonable charge by NYC standards. Staff was friendly, and used my name when I called on the phone. Only con--a light bulb was burned out on the nightstand lamp. I called, and waited 45 minutes but no one came to replace it--I called and cancelled my request because I wanted to go to bed. I want to stay here my next trip--and I advise you to do the same!
