good room for the money

I was placed in a 2 twin L shaped room (dark and tiny room) and since my son couldn't make the flight, I asked for a 1 bed room which they changed without any problems. Much better over looking the park and I could see the beach beyond. The staff especially the bell boys were very helpful and friendly. Beware that if you want to change hotels or leave early there isn't a refund so plan carefully.

Great location, great value

We stayed for 6 nights and I will stay here again. The hotel is older, not fancy, needs updating but the staff was always friendly and helpful, our room was clean and the location is great. Can't beat the price! Walk one block and you're on the beach. Starbucks is on the corner and many many eating places available. We ate breakfast at the hotel and it was good, fairly priced and convenient, plenty of food, too. First room was very small but second room was view of Diamond Head and was large with balcony. We stayed before and after our cruise. Hotel will keep luggage for free if you arrive early to check in but charges $2 per bag to keep it after you check out. I think they charge if you park a car there, too. Also charges for coffee in the room so bring your own. Bus line picks up right outside and there's a free line to shopping but ask to be sure to get on the right one. We asked questions many times at the front desk and were always treated very well and they were very informative. The main street through Wakikii starts one block away. Easy walking to International Market, lots of restaurants including Duke's and Cheeseburger in Paradise and plenty of shopping. Convenient stores everywhere so you can get a Coke and/or sandwiches and put it in the frig in your room. Get tour info from Activity sites along the street b/c they are cheaper than what's offered in the hotel. Local street security was very helpful, too. There are many alternatives to getting around so you can spend as little or as much as you want for the convenience. (If you are touring on your own, always go early.) If you want fancy, don't stay here. But if you are looking for a great price close to the beach and walking distance to restaurants, activities on the beach and shopping, this is a good buy. We will stay here again.

great hotel for the money and location

We were looking for an inexpensive hotel for our family vacation with our four children. We booked two rooms. I am an airline employee, so we are able to go to Hawaii on a regular basis. Three or four years ago, the hotel we normally stay with has been torn down for new hotels to be built, so we have been looking for a new and inexpensive, but nice place to stay. I think we have found it in the Queen Kapiolani. We normally stay at the opposite end of the beach, so this was new to us. The location was great though. The rooms are clean and well taken care of during our stay. The hair dryer didnt work, so we went down to the front dest in the morning and as I was leaving the desk, I heard the clerk paging maintenance to our room. We went to breakfast, and when we returned, a new hairdryer had been installed! The desk was always very freindly and helpful. We thought that the restaurant was nice and well priced. The pool area was lovely with that great view! Our room was the low end, but perfect for a trip like we had. We had city view, but could still sit on the lani and see the ocean or the mountains. I will and have already recommended your hotel to airline freinds, we are always looking for great deals for our travels. We will stay there the next time we book. Thankyou!

great for the money

Definately a great location so that made up for no taxi fees (except to and from the airport) the room was extremely small but fine for what we needed...I don't think I would of paid anymore than we did though....would definately stay there again....safe, clean and cheap

Front Desk lack of customer service

The Front Desk staff, especially 3 younger women have no customer service skills. They act like why are you asking me this question. I work here but do not like it and can't stand you tourists.

Not a Good Hotel

My husband and I booked an ocean view room with a kingsized bed for 10 nights at this hotel When we checked in we were told that the hotel was full and all we could get was a "city view" room with 2 double beds. The view was of a run down apartment!! We checked every day for 10 days to see if we could switch to the type of room we requested and were continually told that the hotel was full and we could not change rooms. However, we met people in the restaurant who checked in after us, and they were given ocean view rooms for less money than we paid!! We were only a block away from the Waikiki beach. The beaches and beach parks were filled with homeless people who had taken over the parks and lived under blue tarps. We have been coming to Waikiki for the past 4 years and this year was the worst. We were unable to access or indeed even see the beaches this year due to all the homeless blue tent villages which in some cases stretched for miles on the west end of island. Not only were the homeless camped out in the public bathrooms/ but while we there, daily articles in the newspaper were saying that the homeless in Waikiki had the highest rates of MRSA (methcillian resistant staph) and that this infection leads to high rates of illness and death with nothing to treat it!! Definitely not an island paradise vacation!!

Old, but good, Great location.

Great location! Right next to Honolulu zoo and Kapiolani park. One block from the beach. Hotel is old, but roomy and comfy. Cheap restaurant on site.

Low budget

Low budget - dated and musty. Only a few bugs! If you are just going to crash overnight, it is not too bad of a place.
