Good Hotel for the $$$$

The Canal Street Hotel is a very cheap place to stay in New Orleans. The hotel is very old and is undergoing a facelift but for the price you can't beat it.

Needs To be Torn Down

This hotel is he worst hotel i have every stayed at we where there from a Friday-Wednesday. The first night there we switche room three times. 1st room no air, 2nd room no tv and loud neightbors, 3rd room every thing ok but it was right by the elevator and stairs. So loud and there was a huge fight outside our door on Saturday night. The elevators where always broken so you had to climb the stairs to the 4th floor or higher. This was the worst stay i have every had at a hotel. We had no maid service at all during our stay. Then to get a iron you have to pay $20 deposit and have 4 hours to use it or you loss your deposit. To me this seems to be a transit hotel and not a place for travelers to stay. So i lost money onthis trip because the hotel was so bad we left a day early.

Scary Place to Stay

No hot water, stains all over the carpet, seems like residential people were staying there and were rude/demeaning, makes you pay $20 to park, loud noises throughout the night

OK location. Staff seemed hardly existant. Room was big but by no means luxorious. ac worked great but the hallway leading up to our room was very hot and humid. Good hotel for a party.

Great deal in New Orleans

We stayed at the Canal Street Hotel during Mardi Gras and paid half of what other hotels were charging. In part it was due to renovations being done so they slashed the rates. It is located six or so blocks from Boubon Street--so its not too bad a hike after a night of partying.

Avoid unless you just need a place to sleep cheap

The hotel posted at its desk that it is currently undergoing renovations, but it is clear that they have not done a good cleaning of the rooms in some time. The receptionist when we arrived was less than helpful and our room smelled. The bathroom was covered in some sort of grime and the shower curtain was torn to the point of falling off the curtain rod. Unless you can't afford any other place, I would not recommend this hotel.

Still under construction

We booked a double room. The first room the light wouldn't turn off, within seconds they gave us another room, however this one the air didnt get cold. After talking to them again they gave us a balcony suite. the suite is WORTH the money. If I knew that they were ten times bigger, better quality and cold I would have booked this room. The neighborhood isn't as bad as people think it is. Yes, there's homeless people living under I 10 but they don't bother anyone. It's best to go to Royal St to Unique grocery and get a week pass to the streetcars. you can get on at the red light just north on I10 and take it to the quarter. They do stop at midnight though. We walked home from the quarter every night with no problem. Be nice to the woman that does the breakfast, she lets you steal food. LOL. There is two women that work the front desk that are extremely helpful. Whatever happens to your room, be polite, they will give you whatever you want. Enjoy your stay at the canal street hotel.

a cheap bed

the beds were clean, the bathtub was not. the A/C, phone, and lamps did not. they had no light bulbs. the morning breakfast was poor. this is a cheap hotel with a bed, tv (only basic channels), small fridge, and microwave. the bathtub was poor and did not drain, and the shower did not work well. the staff was very nice and accomadating the best that they could under the circumstances. it does have a parking garage, and you can catch the street car to go to the quarter.

Distressed hotel just starting to be rebuilt

The horror stories we read from other reviewers were all true. We had no heat and the temperature was below freezing outside. The hotel was purchased a month before we arrived and renovations have not really begun. The place needs extensive renovation. If you stay here and treat it as a camping experience, you will do fine.

I can't believe I paid for this place!

This was possibly the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The room was constantly damp somehow. The carpet was moist the whole time we were there. There was absolutely no hot water. By this, I don't mean that the water was lukewarm. No, the shower was so ice cold that I was unable to stand under the water and had to use a rag to clean myself. I have stayed at bad places before, but the whole experience was so uncomfortable that had I had the money, I would have left and stayed somewhere else. It's so unfortunate that in looking back on my trip to New Orleans, I'll have to remember the horrible stay at this hotel.
