Lap of luxury

I was not sure what to expect when I booked my room for the The Riveria for a weekend in Nov '09. I had never been to Palm Springs and was only able to do my research on the web. Hotels.com was offering a special promotional deal and after reading so many positive reviews, I knew I made the right choice. The staff was extremely attentive and even greeted you when you passed them in the hallway. The large pool with it's fire pits, lounge chairs and cabanas is truly first class. The spa area was beautiful and very relaxing. Just be aware of additional charges that are tacked on your bill for various services or changes with your accomodations. If they don't do something right, speak up. I do plan a return visit.

One of the most chic top level service hotels ever stayed at, from a hotelier.

Hotel was had top level service which was very personalised. Concierge was very knowledgable and friendly, whilst Receptionist was so accommodating and assisted with a complimentary upgrade, early check in and 2 rooms near each other. The hotel is absolute designer chic! The pool area, was one of the best ever seen. The local area, Palm Springs is beautiful nd picturesque. The local outlet shopping Cabazon, is amazing and very very heavily discounted with all the designer brands. I make these comments as a hotelier myself, having worked and stayed at top hotels worldwide including London's Soho Hotel. Highly recommend!

hidden charges

Was unaware of $25 resort charge until I arrived. You need to ask about all possible charges when booking online since hotel charges are excessive.

FABULOUS!!

Beautiful hotel and a very attentive staff !!! Hotel was modern but with a retro feel, definiteley will stay there again!!

I'm on the fence

The hotel was all-in-all very nice but there were a few things that just got me .... 1. There was a smoke detector right above the bed, maybe this was just my room, by the green light was BRIGHT and extremely distracting when going to sleep. 2. I came on 4th of July weekend, I by chance woke up early and was walking around the hotel and it was a mess at 7am. Maybe the cleaning staff was not on but I personally think that there should always be someone making the rounds and cleaning up. There was a clear indication of last nights festivities with empty glasses and bottles littered around. And lastly, 3. The pool was gross as well. The morning maintenance people were cleaning up the area and hosing down the cement and pushing the residue into the POOL, GROSS! So later in the day along with a film of SPF in the poll there was also sandy grit. I really feel the pool could be maintained much better. I was very disappointed with that. Clearly I've told you the negatives but there were a number of good aspects including a quick repose for all requests, a friendly staff, good dining, the rooms were great (aside from the smoke detector). I'd go back and give it another chance but if the cleanliness is not improved upon the I will NEVER go back.

Mixed Feelings

So, I have to admit that the hotel is beautiful. The decor is decadent and sexy and gives off that lounge-like vibe. It is a nice place to satisfy the inner escapist in you. But...... The valets told us valet parking was free..its not, much to my dismay. But, as I checked out, I told the woman at the front desk that I had been told it was free and she grudgingly removed the valet fee, and scolded me. When we got to our room, two of the lights in the bathroom didn't work, and neither did the fridge. Our room was in a building that was way too far from the lobby. (The hotel is small, but quite a maze.) With a balcony facing the parking lot...but a kind of sweet view of the mountains. The pool is especially busy after 12pm so if you don't want to sit on the scalding hot cement, get there early to get a sweet chair, make sure you get one with an umbrella! The staff by the pool is ok. My friend and I were sitting near the bar and waitresses passed by all day. No one asked if we needed anything. And the food is ok, but totally overpriced. Overall, I had a decent experience but for the price I feel it should have been a little more exceptional.

Trendy, but slightly over rated

Rooms are cute, comfortable and modern. Additional upgrades could of been done to make the hotel/property 4 stars. I was slightly disappointed based on the amazing pictures on their website. The main pool is very nice with lots of chairs, umbrellas, couches and lounge beds free of charge. We were out at the pool by 9:30am on the weekend and there were hardly any chairs left, so make sure to get out there early and reserve your seats. The hotel service during the week is horrible. Our room wasn't vacuumed before we arrived and we had to ask 3 times to get it done. The hallways were also not clean. There were very few employees on hand to help and the front desk was not very accommodating despite the lack of patrons. On Friday night the place was hopping with people and more hotel staff. Overall, it's a nicely renovated hotel that is perfect for someone who wants to hangout poolside or just need a trendy place to crash.
