Trip Type: Family Review 4 of 26Half good, half bad, 100% red
After reading the reviews and such, the "red" wasn't all that much of a shock - the decor and the furnishings were fun and interesting (although a little less of the "walk on the wild side" carpeting would have been nice). However, the service of the front desk staff left something to be desired. We did not find them to be overly helpful or very sincere. Bloody Mary's and cold pizza sounded... uh, nice - but perhaps that's because of the emphasis on being trendy and having a hip image. Sorry, we'll take better service over image any day. The room itself was comfortable (king size) and of course, furnished in the same red theme. A flat-screen television was nice (although the standard, non-HD cable service sort of ruined it), and the HVAC worked well. The bed itself was comfortable - the pillows, not (ask the front desk for different ones, but we didn't know we had to defend ourselves and justify why). The bathroom felt a little cramped (and lacked a ventilation fan - prepare for a steamed room after a shower). Room service was timely and not that bad - we had breakfast a few times, and it was good but pricey, considering a few dirty utensils, missing condiments, etc. Location-wise, it's very close to the rest of the downtown area, and very close to Dupont Circle (we recommend Zorba's Cafe!). But after a day of walking around the monuments, the walk back to the hotel felt like an eternity. All in all, we'd still recommend the hotel to friends wanting to stay in D.C., if only for the unique experience. Sadly, we'd have to say it's an experience with a both ups and downs.

Trip Type: Family Review 5 of 26Moderately Priced; Great Neighborhood
The hotel is a little dark and I now know why it is the Hotel Rouge -- all decor is primarily red. The bathrooms are small, but clean. The room is spacious. It is in a wonderful neighborhood with great convenience to good restaurants, DuPont Circle and the metro. The staff is laid-back and low key and does not seem to have a problem with kids of any age.

Trip Type: Family Review 6 of 26Stylish room for the money
Great service employees. Large bedroom and work space. Bathroom is small and with no ventilation, the wall paper is peeling. The lounge is small but cozy. We had over priced drinks and marginal breakfast sandwich. For most of our three day stay we went out for drinks and food. The hotel price was reasonable and location good. I would stay here again. I especially like the Kimpton hotels environment and social justice focus.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 26Funky, fun, functional
Rouge is a place that makes you laugh out loud. All those statues in the front! A red leather door! But they take the hotel business very seriously. The rooms are large, comfortable, well-appointed. The staff is amazingly cheerful and always helpful. The weekday 5-6 PM free red wine is a delightful touch. Oh, and on the weekends there are bloody mary's and cold pizza from 11-noon. The location on Scott Circle is just a few blocks from Metro stops at Farragut North or Dupont Circle, and there are bus stops on 6th St. Great value for comfortable accomodations, obliging service and convenient location.

Trip Type: Family Review 12 of 26Friendly staff; cool decor
We stayed four days over the Thanksgiving holiday and can't say enough about how helpful and friendly the staff are at Rouge. Plus we love boutique hotels that think of all the cool little details; Rouge combines cool and comfy.

My 12 year old son and I loved the Hotel Rouge. It's just three blocks from the Dupont Circle bookstores, cafe & Metro. Neighborhood feels v safe. Very friendly staff and beautiful room. Will definitely return.
