Trip Type: Family Review 1 of 62Great place to stay
This hotel is great--the people, the neighborhood, the balconies. My only complaint is the bed, it was extremely hard, I had to line up three decorative pillows and sleep on them to get kind of comfortable. Aside from that, I loved it and will probably go right back the next time.

Great location...two blocks from Central Park and on subway line. Do not miss the roof top - floors 14 and 16 lounge areas.

Trip Type: Family Review 5 of 62Satisfactory Place
We stayed in a room with two double beds. It was a lovely room and very comfortable. Hotel staff were decent to very helpful. They were able to store our luggage after checkout time in a secure room till we picked them up in the late afternoon. They have a concierge who was very helpful. On the whole a very positive experience. (Plus the neighborhood is awesome.)

Trip Type: Family Review 6 of 62Great location, good value in NYC
We were very happy to find a good value in a good location in Manhattan. Unlike other hotels in this price range, we had a comfortable room with private bath and a king size bed. The room was on the small side, but it was comfortable. We were on the 12th floor and it was very quiet. Unlike many hotels these days, they do charge for internet access in the room or in their business center off the lobby. The location was great -- two blocks from one subway line and about six blocks from another. On the Ave is also within walking distance of the Natural History Museum, Central Park, the Met and the Guggenheim. Also very convenient to great restaurants and numerous stores, banks, cleaners, etc. We would definitely return to On the Ave Hotel on our next trip to NYC.

Trip Type: Family Review 8 of 62Small, but Nice
The hotel itself was clean and in a convenient location to catch the subway. The surrounding neighborhood had plenty of places to eat and shop, and it is also within walking distance to the Museum of Natural Science and Central Park. If you plan to spend a lot of time in your room, I would not recommend this hotel as the rooms and bathrooms (only room for one person) are small even by New York standards. If you simply need a nice place to sleep and bathe, then this hotel is perfect for the price. The people at the front desk were rude at check in AND check out, plus the door attendants were practically nonexistent. There is room for improvement, but overall, for the right price I would stay here again.

Trip Type: Family Review 9 of 62Room was great, bathroom could use a lot of work.
My husband and I were visiting NY from DC for the weekend only. We chose to stay the weekend so we could catch a Yankee/Mets game (Yankees won the series) without worrying about traffic. First off, the location of this hotel was amazing. Just off of Broadway near Central Park, Lincoln Center, Natural History Museum, great dining and shopping. The hotel had a very quiet balcony for everyones use, though there werent many up there when we visited. The staff was friendly upon checking in and out, but because of the type of hotel there wasnt much interaction with them. The room was decent sized for NY, beds were extremely comfortable. The hotel does have concierge service and parking, but thats it. Do not expect to be able to order in the night or morning, or at all. This hotel is simply for spending the night in and enjoy the city. The bathroom was the only draw back for me. Compared to the bedroom, the bathroom reminded me of a cheaper end hotel. The fixtures were modern styled, but the tiling was stained and old, both on the floor and ceiling. It seemed as if it hadnt been cleaned well in a while as there was a thick layer of dust on some of the items. The shower had a dried up layer of hair and the handle didnt work. I would expect some of these things with a chain, but not a more sophisticated hotel. Overall, Im guessing it may just be the room I received. I think their website and photos didnt match the room I was in. I will not stay here again. For the price I paid, there are several other hotels in the area of similar costs.

Trip Type: Family Review 10 of 62Great Hotel
Overall it was a great experience. Three stayed comfortably in the doubles. Really close to Central Park and great museums. Lots of places to eat & shop close by. Only negative was that internet not included with room stay - rate was quite high for per day use.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 62Unpretentious nice hotel
After 7 visits to NYC and and many hotel disasters, at last we found a 'nice' hotel which suited us. We are a middle-aged, well-travelled couple who love NYC (in spite of previous accommodation disasters). Now we have somewhere to come back to. My husband thought the best thing about it was that we were able to open the windows and get fresh air. Didn't need the air conditioning. Location was great - an excellent Diner across the road, close to express subway. Not far from Central Park, and the Natural History Museum. Room was smallish but comfortable with pleasant modern decor and nice thick towels and nice bedlinen and pillows. Very happy with this hotel!

Trip Type: Family Review 12 of 62Outstanding Hotel in a Great Location
We had a room with two double beds. The beds were very comfortable and the room was not tiny as often is the case in Manhattan. The staff was friendly and efficient. Located on the upper west side, the hotel was within reasonable walking distance of Lincoln Center, Central Park, MOMA, The Metropolitan Museum, The Museum of Natural History and a host of other westside sites. Subway was two blocks away, which connected us to the rest of NYC. Overall, we had a great experience and recommend this hotel to others.

Not enough water pressure in my shower to wash my hair. I assume it will be fixed since I reported the problem -- but really! They also forgot to stock shampoo.

If you are looking for a place on the upper west side this is it. It has been completely updated and was an excellent choice for the money. Will definitely stay here again.

Trip Type: Family Review 15 of 62Great Hotel, Great Location
My wife and i spent 3 nights in the On the Ave Hotel in the Penthouse Loft and we absolutly loved it!!! Great views from the balcony and close access to the 1 line subway. The hotel is in the Upper West Side which is extrely safe and friendly neighborhood. It is also located only 2 blocks from the Shake Shack (a major plus) and only 3 from Central Park. From our balcony we could see the hudson and Central Park. The hotel was quiet and elegant and the room even better then we could imagine. With the large windows and balcony it seemed that the NYC skyline was part of our room. We are from Nassau County which is a subarb of NYC (only 45 minutes outside) and we've spent many other nights and similiarly priced and rated hotels but we have never had such a wonderful stay. We will be back every time we come to NYC.
