Trip Type: With Friends Review 1 of 24This hotel is fine
Some comments were saying this hostel looks like a refugee camp. In a way, it is true, the bathroom is creepy, there are no trash can in the rooms but the comfort is fine, you can definitely meet young people from the whole world, the hotel is well-located (two steps from the metro to take u downtown). I do think that young people who need at least a bed and a roof, this is perfect !!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 24Great value, clean sheets, cold airconditioning, clean bathrooms
The sheets were clean. Only 4 people per room. The shared bathrooms were clean and kept up by staff. The air conditioning was cold (not available in all rooms). If you need a place to sleep in a safe neighborhood in Manhattan, you can't beat this deal. The staff was very nice and helpful.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 4 of 24well, it *is* a hostel
The building is old, and even a nice, (also garish sometimes) paint job can't hide that. The stairs up to the 1st floor were uneven and prone to tripping people. The stairs to the basement were frighteningly steep. The staff was polite but infexible about check-in/out times. The room was small but just fine. It was very clean and the IKEA light cover was adorable. There was an inconveniently placed bar in the center of the bunk bed. However, if you're in NYC and you're not falling into bed exhausted with everything you did that day, you're not doing it right! The bathrooms were immaculate and the showers blessedly hot even after the morning rush. It's a no-frills place but for the price and location, it's a total win.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 5 of 24needs improvement
If your looking for the barebones then this hostel is for you. the lounge and lockers are in the basement. the stairs to the basement are very narrow and curve sharply. It's a pain to carry bags up and down. there is no air conditioning. The hotel staff tends to be lazy and unhelpful. you can use the computers in the lounge but it's $2 every 20mins. The luggage lockers cost $5 for up to 24hrs but if you open it you'll need another $5 to lock it up again. there are about 30-40 beds per floor and only 2 bathrooms per floor. I would recomend either a different hostel or to stay in a cheap hotel in jersey and take the path train into NYC

Trip Type: With Friends Review 6 of 24Great Room 4 the $
The hotel was cool. The staff was great. I don't really recommend this hotel to females, only because there are a lot of men and we all share bathrooms. Some of those men give those tiolets, no mercy. Overall the hotel was in a great location, next to a lot of things and the beds sucked, there were flat and uncomfortable.

It was a dive but that's what i expected. If you are not looking to spend a lot, this is the place to stay.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 11 of 24Needs work
The hostel needs some serious interior work. The steps sag, making it rather tricky to navigate, and dangerous as well. The 1st floor bathrooms are in dire need of an overhaul. One of the tubs/shower doesn't allow water to drain properly, so it simply sits in the tub. A floor mat should be on the floors to prevent slipping and overall cleaning of the bathrooms should be done more than twice a day. The room itself was clean, so that was nice. The location of the hostel is ideal, with a subway station 3 blocks away.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 24cheap and in a safe neighborhood
its not the perfect hostel.. but still a decent one for new york due to the location/price. My room didnt have an outlet for the laptop what pissed me off. I would like to come here and say a lot of bad things about it, but its just a hostel.. hehe i was not really expecting room service or a huge bathroom [what by the way was the smallest bathroom i have ever been.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 13 of 24For easy going people
As said in previous reviews, you get what you pay for! The building is old so it was as clean as it could be. I felt safe (as you can in NYC anyway), and the location was great. Subways are just a few blocks as well as Central Park. Perfect place for young travelers who like to meet new people. The only negative thing about our stay was that you couldn't flush the toliet paper in one of the bathrooms on our floor. Just be patient as far as getting into the bathroom (coming from a big family, I'm used to that!!!) Overall we had a good experience, but we aren't spoiled!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 14 of 24DONT STAY HERE!!! EVER!
This Hostel overbooks and we never got our room and have yet to be refunded. When we arrived there were multiple guests waiting to get their room and they were overbooked by 12 people and the next night they were overbooked by 30 people. The receptionist was more concerned about texting her friends then she was about the clients. For your own good, dont book rooms here, it will not save you money as you will have to book a hotel somewhere else.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 15 of 24It's a hostel
It's a hostel. Low budget. No Frills. Very basic amenities. What do you expect? It is for the tourist on a budget. The room is literally a bed in a room. That's it. Clean room. Fresh sheets. A Towel. Bar soap. That is it. The bathroom was clean, even if you have to share it with 10 other rooms. May be tough to get into the bathroom in the mornings. Be prepared to wait...and don't wait until the last minute if you have to relieve yourself. You may find yourself waiting awhile to do so. The bathroom maintenance person seems to had adopted the credo that caulk can fix anything. There are three inches of caulk around the bathtub, toilet, sink...and baseboards. Drains inside the tub and sink have the same philosophy carried to them as well. I guess it never occurred to anyone to remove the old caulk before the new caulk is applied...but it is one of the few quirks in this place that make is special. It is a great value for the money if you're going to be visiting NYC and plan to spend very little time in the room.
