Trip Type: Romance Review 4 of 125Great place to see Chicago from
We had a great stay here for our four-night mini-vacation in Chicago. The location can't be topped, and the river view is probably the best in all Chicago. The hotel is in convenient walking distance to many major attractions, and only 2 blocks from the EL and other connections. The room decor wasn't super fancy, but it suited us. Plenty of space, and a large desk in its own area. Two more armchairs and a small table (not the easiest for eating in the room, which we did once, but it sufficed). A few minor flaws: the security latch on the door was broke, and the water in the shower never got really hot, but it was not unpleasant. (No fan in the bathroom, so that was maybe a good thing.) The window had only shears that closed all the way, so it was a bit bright. Sounds carried fairly well, but we didn't find them all that disruptive. We had an older TV, but hardly had time to watch it anyway. The service was very helpful and prompt. The valet parking is ridiculously expensive (like all of downtown Chicago), so we avoided that by parking at Midway and taking the EL into town. The hotel stored our luggage for us at no charge in before we checked and after checkout. We would definitely stay here again if we make another visit to Chicago.

Trip Type: Romance Review 6 of 125Great upgraded rooms, need a bar in the lobby
We got an upgraded room, which was absolutely great, both the room and the bathroom. room was very spacey and we had the King premier with River view, wow the view was so nice! You actually see the river, which is beautiful specially at night with some nice buildings. we were on 10th floor and had no problem with the elevator as I read on some reviews. So I have to say we got lucky with the whole experience. The hotel service was great, the only thing they absolutely need an improvement is to have a bar and lounge. The restaurant was pretty boring too. Sometimes when you are tired you just like to spend time in the lounge of the hotel and not worried about waiting in line. I will stay in another hotel next time, just for that reason, but I was happy with anything else.

Trip Type: Romance Review 7 of 125Did Not Tell You About Parking
The view from our hotel was amazing...I am glad that we did the upgrade for the river view. They did not tell us that we would be charged per night for parking though. When I got the bill, that was a big bummer. Overall, I thought the rooms would be bigger, but we didn't spend much time there anyways.

Trip Type: Romance Review 8 of 125Great location but ...
Last weekend we were in Chicago to celebrate our wedding anniversary & stayed 2 nights at Hotel 71. By far the best asset of the hotel is its location -- easy walking distance to the theater district, could catch either a bus or boat tour a block away, & has a nice outdoor ambiance with outdoor cafes/restaurants all around. However, our room on the 38th floor, though quite clean, had a tired look about it -- an old TV, a chipped drawer, a non-working security lock chain, & stains in the bath tub. I asked for a remodeled room (a reviewer's recommendation)upon check-in but was told none were available. Also the AC at high fan & maximum cooling ran non-stop but did not cool off the room adequately. The vent's location in the corner of the room away from the bed/bathroom area probably had something to do with its efficiency. There are also only 2 elevators, so the wait was a problem at times. There was a wedding reception going on Sat. night in the ballroom, which is 2 floors above our floor. The music could be heard in our room, especially the irritating bass. Even with ear plugs, that bass came through. On a positive note, the help staff was very cordial & available. Valet parking was $43 a night, probably an average rate in Chicago. Would have been nice to have a self-parking option though! I'd stay here again but only in a remodeled room with a better functioning AC.

We were on the 25th floor. The river view is spectacular, the room clean and spacious. It made my vacation.

Trip Type: Romance Review 10 of 125Amazing location
At the price we paid, the rate was a steal. The hotel is centrally located to everything possible, and it didn't feel dangerous to walk around at night. The only complaint I have is the slowness of the elevators. However, the bellhops were exceptional in their service. We had a room that overlooked the river, and the room was spacious and comfy. Can't go wrong with this hotel; everything is within walking distance- the Mile, Millenium Park, Sears Tower, Chicago Theater...amazing!

Trip Type: Romance Review 13 of 125Hotel 71 - Great location and price
Great price for the room. Room was a good size and we had full view of the river which was nice. It was wonderful to step out and talk a stroll along the river. Hotel wasn't right on Michigan but just a few steps away. Staff was very helpful in getting us where we needed to go and recommended really good restaurants.

Trip Type: Romance Review 14 of 125Great hotel in a great location
We had a very large room, great view of the river. Staff was very nice. The lobby is extremely small. No restaurant or lounge. They did set up a small mobile bar in the evenings in the lobby, but sometimes it is not manned and you have to wait. Very good location walking to mag. mile, broadway shows, etc. I would stay there again!

Trip Type: Romance Review 15 of 125Great location and price for the room
Hotel 71 isn't the fanciest hotel around but for the price and location is was an outstanding deal. The Hotel is a little bit older but very clean. The staff exceeded my expectations and the rooms were very comfortable. My family and I were visiting Chicago for the first time and we thought it was in a prime spot to walk to a lot of attractions or take a very short cab ride to most places that would cost us very little for the ride. I would stay here again just for the price, the service, the location, the convenience and the safety of the location. The only downside is that there is no onsite restaurant, but there are plenty around and even a restaurant called Corner Bakery next door where we enjoyed breakfast every morning.
