Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 70Nice experience
The only thing I would like to warn everyone about is the parking! There is no street parking, and to park in the hotels parking garage, you need to pay $37 a night! The hotel itself and facilities were beautiful.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 7 of 70Super Value
Stayed here on the recommendation of a friend. More than pleasantly surprised. Our room was nicely appointed, the bedding was new and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the hotel was conveniently located within walking distance to various attactions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Essex and are planning a return trip next year.

Just spent several days in Chicago and stayed at the Essex on the recommendation of a friend. This hotel is a gem! Friendly, helpful staff; comfy beds with soft sheets; clean and nicely decorated rooms; and within walking distance of so many attractions. We are already planning our trip back to Chicago next year and will definitely stay at the Essex. You can't beat the service and accommodations for the price!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 9 of 70Very good but room for improvement
The Essex was convenient and clean with generally helpful personnel. We were surprised to see that the Essex charges for computer time except to print out boarding passes. We'd expect that of a Motel 6!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 10 of 70Don't get smoking rooms
In some hotels, like most Vegas hotels, they have very good ventilation and even if you end up in a room where you can smoke, it will not smell like cigarette smoke. In this hotel it does smell like cigarette smoke. Just an FYI

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 70Great location for Taste of Chicago
Chicago's Essex Inn provides a great location and price if you are planning to spend the majority of your time outside of the hotel. The rooms are clean, great for sleeping and showering, somewhat small. I attended the Taste of Chicago and I had a room on the 10th floor. We had a perfect view of the fireworks from our room. Again, a great buy if you do not plan to spend much time in the room.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 13 of 70Could've done better
I had reserved a double suite but upon checking in they only had standard rooms available which could accommodate us. There amenities such as the valet parking is a nice thought, but they don't tell you it costs you $37 a day to park. There was also a mini fridge in the room...which froze all our drinks. Don't really want to get started with all the maintenance and cleaning issues.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 14 of 70Misleading and needs improvement
During my stay at the Essex Inn Chicago, the air conditioning properly work 1 out of the 2 1/2 day is was a guest. When I asked the only time I saw maintenance he commented to me that I couldn't expect more from the A/C as it was an old unit from before the renovation. I complained 3 time to the front desk but there was only record of one, the time maintenance went to the room. Also I felt mislead during my stay at the Essex Inn in Chicago. When I arrived I parked at the hotel's parking garage, by the entrance a large sign read "in and out privileges are free to over night guest, however at check out I was informed an additional amount would be billed to my credit card for parking fees for both days of my stay totaling more than $70.00. A no point did any of the employees or parking attendants notify me of the possibility of additional charges for parking.
