Trip Type: Family Review 1 of 97clean and comfortable room
Great hotel for family visits to Chicago - location is ideal, as you can walk to Shedd Museum and Millenium Park...one block from the bus stop, and a great breakfast spot is down the street - The Yoke.

Trip Type: Family Review 6 of 97Great Chicago hotel
Essex Inn is located in an area where you can walk to the museum district (even though they offer shuttle service). The folks working were very friendly and offered many things to do and see during our visit.

Trip Type: Family Review 7 of 97Great location; great pool
Other than the room and bathroom sizes being on the small size, this hotel has a great location to the museum campus (which is the reason for our visit) and was a quick walk to great pizza and some local restaurant, and a blues club. Staff was very very helpful. Hotel shuttle service worked well for us, but only runs on the hour and not over lunch. Parking fee is extra, so make sure you ask about charges. We would definitely consider staying at the Essex on another trip to Chicago. The pool and deck area were awesome.

Trip Type: Family Review 8 of 97Great location to Museum Campus
We couldn't ask for a better location to the museum campus for the price we paid! We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go, even Navy Pier (if you are a frequent walker). Two blocks south is a great place for breakfast called Yolks and a few blocks to Hackney's for lunch or dinner. Don't hesitate to book this hotel!

Trip Type: Family Review 9 of 97Great room for the money
Staff was very friendly and quite helpful. The room was on the smaller side but well kept and suited our needs. Location is great - right on Michigan Ave. and close to several bus routes. Valet parking available. Also has pool but we did not have time to use it. My daughter and I have stayed here multiple times and will continue to go back.

comfortable bed, clean, and convenient to bus stop, parks, museums, and restaurants...especially enjoy Yoke breakfast stop in the am just a few blocks away.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 97Better Than Expected
Overall our stay was fair. However, our room was not ready when we checked in,(30 minutes early), and we were offered a queen rather than king we requested, no biggie. But, we actually had a parking attendendant send us to the garage to gather some items from our car. I found this very unprofessional. Also we interrupted the maid while she was refreshing our room and she requested we wait in the lobby for 10 minutes. Very odd, however, a nice hotel.

Trip Type: Family Review 12 of 97Good Value
A good value hotel. Bell staff were extremely helpful. Easy walking to Field Museum, Aquarium, and Planetarium. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Traveled with two young kids and would recommend this hotel, especially for those taking kids to the museum campus. Still can't stomach $37 to park a car each day but that is normal in Chicago I guess.

Trip Type: Family Review 13 of 97A Pleasant Experience!
We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at the Chicago Essex Inn. Our room was very clean and maintained. The beds were very comfortable. Location was perfect, especially with the nice park across the street. We could see the lake and museums from our window. The staff was very courteous and helpful. (The front desk person recommended a fantastic local pizza restaurant that we will definitely return to next time in Chicago.) The hotel provided shuttle service free of charge to the Navy Pier and the museums. Our only slight disappointment was the hotel's restaurant. The food price was reasonable, but the food was terribly bland. But who cares about the hotel restaurant when there are so many other great places to go eat in Chicago. In all, we would definitely stay in this hotel again in future.

Trip Type: Family Review 14 of 97Exceptional Service
A couple drawbacks are that the room is small, there is little dresser space for clothes, and noise from the hallway is very loud but the price and service certainly makes up for it. Within walking distance to the museums.

We love this hotel. Very convenient to the Museum Campus - Grant Park is across the street. Rooftop indoor pool is so nice, with an outdoor balcony that overlooks the park. Excellent value in the kid-friendly restaurant.
