Good choice for Wine Country vacation

Fountaingrove Inn is a great choice if you are traveling through wine country and want a good central location. The 101 is easily accessed from the hotel, and downtown Santa Rosa is a 5 minute drive. The hotel is quiet, and the staff is friendly and professional. If you want a quaint and "authentic" wine country hotel, you should stay in Healdsburg, St. Helena, or Sonoma. This hotel was great for us as we had no set itinerary and knew we would be traveling through Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino counties.I would also recomment it for business travelers as the hotel offers free wi-fi.

Decent Hotel, Great Restaurant

Twice upon returning to the room after our day trips around the wine country, we found our sheets had been replaced with dirty ones and had to have them changed again. Left us wondering a little about the cleanliness of the rest of our room. Other than that, a good location and what we expected for the price. The Equus restaurant was a little pricey but very good. We had breakfast and dinner during our stay there.

Outstanding central location for all of Wine Country

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed at the Fountaingrove Inn, and will continue to stay here on our returns to the California wine country. It's the perfect location between the Napa/Sonoma areas and the Dry Creek/Russian River/Alexander Valley areas. Although the brand of bath amenities has changed, the quality has not. I would recommend anyone looking for a nice simple room in a good location to stay here.

Cool hotel - easy access

I didn't look at a map so was a bit disappointed the hotel's location in Santa Rosa was so far from Napa. But it worked out fine since we had a convertible and had lovely drives through the vineyards then back through Calistoga and the woods. The hotel is very Frank Lloyd Wright inspired and despite proximity to 101, is very quiet. The restaurant is great too.

a bit dated, but nice enough place from which to start trips to wine country. fitness room was in need of major repair.

Bugs

During our stay, we experienced multiple and signficant bites on our backs, stomachs, and necks. The bed was unfortunately not clean, at least from insects. We were disappointed, also, with the way the hotel handled special requests. For example, I asked whether they could loan me a broom--or even a broomstick--to allow me to do some physical therapy exercises. Hotel personnel were obsessed with the rules that kept them from allowing anything into the room that was not otherwise in there. No room for creativity in the realm of guest compliance! This was really sad. We witnessed many other examples of the above shortcomings, with other guests (e.g., at the pool) complaining about how the hotel personnel could not comply with (or understand) basic guest needs, and how the rules set by management dimmed the guests' experience. This was a "not staying there again" experience. Tim and Carol

You have to go to the hotel restaurant for dinner !!!

Nice hotel for a nice price, but the biggest surprise was the hotel restaurant. Absolutely delicious and if we could give away Michelin stars for food, they would get some of them !!! Outstanding dinner, great wine recommendation , excellent service and with the hotel voucher we got at the reception even a further reduction of the total restaurant bill by another 10%...
