the hotel was small but I loved that. The breakfast exceeded our expectations and the Owners were absolutely wonderful. The other patrons were very nice. Will stay there again next time in California.

Trip Type: Romance Review 2 of 8A hidden jem in Chula Vista
We booked this room because we wanted to stay near the Cricket Amphitheater but not too close where the traffic to the event would drive us nuts. So we decided to stay at El Primero because we love old architecture and we had read the previous reviews on this hotel. It was all true. The owners of the hotel serve the breakfast in the morning and they are such warm people, they really get to know their guests. They make you feel at home. We will definitely love to return to this hotel for another little romantic get away. My only word of warning to you is that the beds are a little squeaky and the walls are a little thin, so we won't book the room closest to the lobby next time! ;)

Trip Type: Romance Review 3 of 8A wonderful hotel for the money!
After looking at several hotels on hotels.com we decided to try the bed and breakfast category which led us to the El Primero Boutique Bed and Breakfast. We stayed three nights and were very pleased with the clean, updated rooms and friendly inn keepers--Pie and Sol. The breakfasts were also great: fresh bananna bread, assorted fresh fruits, juice, coffee. We were also very pleased with how easy it was to get to places: San Diego, beaches, La Jolla, were all just a short drive on the freeway. There are also several restaurants close by. All in all, our stay was wonderful and we look forward to returning!

Trip Type: Romance Review 4 of 8Great Hotel!!!
We were reluctant to stay at El Primero when planning our vacation to San Diego because the hotel is not in the city. Staying here is worth the 15 minute drive into San Diego! The hotel is spotless. The facility has a history but is modern and updated. Breakfast is delicious and includes items for everyone. Pie, the owner, goes out of his way to make sure his guests are welcome and comfortable. The hotel's energy is generated using solar power if you are concerned with being an Earth friendly traveler. The staff takes many other steps to ensure El Primero is a green hotel. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. We had a wonderful experience at El Primero and would highly suggest it to anyone looking for a hotel in the San Diego!

Trip Type: Romance Review 7 of 8Great Hotel at a Great Price
The outside of the building is old, but the inside is beautifully renovated and modeled. I loved it. Small and cozy rooms. Great staff. Good breakfast. Decent price.

Trip Type: Romance Review 8 of 8Charming hosts.
We were lured in by the home-baked banana bread, but were equally charmed by the thoughtful room themes and the immaculate, precious accommodations. It's family-run, and they can be a bit noisy when you're trying to sleep in, since they're preparing breakfast and running down the hall to the front desk. We'd booked thinking it was closer to SD proper, but the drive was manageable, and we amused ourselves with what (little) Chula Vista had to offer: community theatre, two or three decent restaurants and an arcade. El Primero isn't exactly central, but it compensates by being off-beat and very charming.
