Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 13Great Hotel - HORRIBLE Front desk staff
The hotel was absolutely awesome - great location, very clean, and quite possibly the friendliest and most fantastic concierge guys I have ever had the privilege to come in contact with - Malik and crew were just AWESOME. Unfortunately, the women who were working the front desk were horrible. The W's slogan is "Whatever Whenever". This was DEFINITELY not the case and we certainly didn't have outlandish requests. There were four of us in town to celebrate my friend's 30th birthday. We had called ahead to see if the hotel offered anything in the way of birthday celebrations to surprise her with upon check in. We were told there should was and they would put balloons and champagne in the room. We called the day before our arrival to confirm this was still possible and would be done. We were assured it was and would be. It wasn't and when I called the front desk from the room to ask why I was told that "well they couldn't get helium." Am I foolish to believe that there was no helium to be had in the entire city of New Orleans? The most disappointing thing about this was that had we just been told up front or even during the confirmation call that such a simple request was impossible by the W staff we would have made other arrangements. At one point, the young lady working the front desk barked at me, after I inquired about getting a knife to cut the cake, "I'll get to it when I can. I'm the only one working right now." We were just hotel guests and certainly not in charge of scheduling. The consequence of a thinner shift of staff shouldn't be one of the guests. If it hadn't been for Malik our stay would have been less than favorable. He certainly did anything and everything to make sure our stay was awesome. If only the front desk girls were as accommodating. I would recommend this hotel to a friend, but would make sure they were warned that "Whatever Whenever" really wasn't the case.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 3 of 13If the front desk cared about the guest it could have been great
This was my first W experience and I'm sad to say I was incredibly disappointed by the hotel staff (those working the front desk). My friends and I splurged a bit to stay here for my 30th birthday and they had called ahead and asked if the hotel could do something nice for my birthday - The hotel suggested balloons, and champagne. My friends however were very disappointed to arrive and find that they seemed to have completely forgotten despite the fact that they had just called to reconfirm the night before. They eventually did bring up a bottle of champagne after my friends called down to the front desk - but at that point the surprise had already been ruined. They stated they couldn't get balloons because the helium tank was broken. So I'm not sure why they didn't call to let my friends know so something else could have been arranged. Later in the evening we called the "Whatever, Whenever" service to ask for a couple of plates and a knife to cut my birthday cake with. The response was "I get it, you want to cut a cake but I'm the only one working" - at that point after our experience earlier in the evening we realized asking the front desk was a lost cause so we walked to a Walgreen’s and found some plastic knives and paper plates. I only later found out after returning from my trip that my parents had also called the hotel asking if they could send me a bottle of champagne or wine to my room as a surprise on my birthday. The front desk told my parents it would be too complicated because they would have to send them a form to provide their credit card information - I'm thankful my parents recognized the attitude they received and decided against working with the hotel and instead called the restaurant they knew we had reservations with and were able to VERY EASILY arrange for me to have a special bottle of wine with my friends. Upon checking out I heard the lady at the front desk tell another guest she was hired to make miracles at the hotel happen but apparently

Trip Type: With Friends Review 4 of 13Hidden treasure
I hope no one else hears about this gem in the Quarter so I can get a room the next time I need one. It may be 10 or 20 dollars more than a few other hotels, but the jump in quality is amazing.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 6 of 13Gross -- Should reconsider branding -- Does Starwood own a Budget Inn type brand?
Location is great if you are looking to be in the thick of the Bourbon Street/French Quarter thing. The courtyard is pleasant. Overall though, the property is shockingly-poorly maintained. I understand this is New Orleans-- one of those cities where otherwise normal people go to behave like savages. But if the savages have done a number on a guest room, a hotel that presents itself as having the quality of the W should put that room out of commission until it is properly attended to. The feeling one gets in this place is that the savages have had their way for some time. We arrived a few hours early for our check-in. The front desk staff was pleasant and accommodating. We were immediately given a "wonderful" room on the 4th floor. Unfortunately, it was filthy. The bathroom floor had a greasy film on it. The fixtures looked like they had just been used, etc. There was a stain on the comforter. OK, we were a bit early. The staff was apologetic and quickly got us another room. No harm... Room number 2 was also gross. The sofa had a mystery stain. Carpets were stained. Bedding looked questionable. We called down and asked that a manger come up. I thought it was important that he actually see the problems with the 2nd room. He was apologetic and explained that they have had a lot of turnover in their housekeeping dept. He was kind enough to offer us a larger room free of charge and some drink coupons for the bar. He said it would be an hour or so, but they would have our bags moved for us…things were looking up. We went and had lunch and came back to room number three…and a cup full of cigarette butts and fluid (booze? Rainwater?) sitting on the lovely balcony of our upgraded room. Otherwise, the room seemed to be free of stains and things that made me want to vomit. Being that we were in New Orleans for one night we decided we’d caused enough trouble. I recommend that unless you hear that this place has undergone renovation and/or management change, stay away.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 11 of 13Best Beds and Location in Town
With less than 100 rooms and a location on a quiet street in the Quarter, this is an ideal spot for those who might not be too keen on the polyester bedspreads and pink-tiled bathrooms found in many of the "quaint" hotels in the area. No worries about it being over-the-top uber-hip--there's no pretense here. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the Acura MDX car service was a definite bonus. We had a double room which was more spacious than I had expected. I didn't notice any noise from other rooms or hallway, and our courtyard location was serene. There is a restaurant on-site, but I ended up eating at Mother's and other local establishments. It's not open for breakfast, but there is in-room dining available; we chose to go across the street to Cafe Fleur de Lys instead. The hotel is centrally located, with the Riverwalk and Aquarium less than 10 minutes (walking), and just about any spot in the Quarter less than 12 or so. The streetcar stops for the French Market and St Charles St, et al, are a 2-5 minute walk. And, most importantly, the air conditioning works superbly...

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 13Excellent Hotel
I couldn't be happier with my stay at the W French Quarter. The service is impeccable, the atmosphere is chic, and the courtyard is beautiful and relaxing. Anything we wanted, we received: service, dinner reservations, directions to local attractions. The staff was willing to help us at any time. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is interesting in excellent service and quality!
