Definitely get what you pay for

After reading the reviews I was definitely expecting a dumpy place. HOWEVER, the ocean inn is right next door to a resort that has it all. It is located on a 4 mile golden sand beach that we could watch the sunset from our balcony. Knowing the hotel was built in the 60s it was definitely showing its age- The air conditioning broke the FIRST night we were there and the hotel staff moved us into a cottage. The cottages (being built in the 70s) also showed some age but was very clean and spread out through several acres. Almost as though staying in a private house vs hotel. There was an amazing luau every night and 4 weddings! The main resort that this hotel is next to was listed on the Travel channel, which costs a lost more than the Kaanapali Ocean Inn. If we go back we will definitely chose the Resort, NOT the ocean inn.

Yuck!

Even for the low price, this hotel was old, ugly, dirty and uncomfortable. We stayed for one night because we got to Maui very late at night. The next morning we got up and cancelled our reservation for the rest of the week. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!!!!

Welcome Home

Welcome home is what the greeter said to us. It is an older hotel but it was very comfortable. The upgrade to a cottage made it feel as though we were staying in a guest house instead of a hotel.

Comfortable, friendly and great beach

We stayed in the cabins and found everything very comfortable. Although inside the room was clean and tidy, patio furniture was dirty so we could not enjoy that part. It has a large shared green area and you feel you are in vacation at the moment you go in. Beach right in front of the cabins was gourgeous. Don't expect a olympic size pool though. It is definetely great for the money.

Needs an Exterminator

There were ants! We didn't even have any food in our room and yet ants! When we called them to move rooms, there were very accommodating and moved us to a beach front cottage. But even then, by the time we woke up in the morning, ants in that one too! Luckily we only stayed 2 nights.

the hotel was great and the location couldnt have been better. the service was excellent however the maid service was a little annoying. they would come every hour even though i told them several times to come back later. im not sure if they understood english very well or if they were just tip hunting but they walked in on us quite a few times.

Great Deal In the Heart of Kannapali

This hotel was a fine deal for the room rate. Be aware, that a luau happens every night, next to the hotel. The luau got a little annoying and noisy.
