We don't get to northern VA often, but this is where we stay.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 2 of 38What I expected
I wanted to stay in Virginia Beach but not on the beach. It was quiet, comfortable and accessible. Staff was friendly and the facilities were fine.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 4 of 38OUTSTANDING HOTEL
I had already checked out the Founders Inn and Spa website and loved the location (Close to Regent University) but I found the rooms to be even lovelier than the pictures. The beds were the most comfortable (soft) that I had ever slept in at a hotel (and I have been to many very nice ones). The service was very nice and the staff, very friendly. The restaurant (Hunt Room) was also very nice. The food was excellent although I felt they were a little understaffed. Overall, a very nice hotel experience.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 5 of 38Excellent Quality and Excellent Price
All the hotels in VA Beach are outrageously priced but they offer easy access to the beach and/or ocean views. This hotel is cheaper because it is 20 minutes from the beach. I would rather spend less and drive 20 minutes than spend twice as much and be 20 seconds from the beach. So if you are the kind of person who likes to get away from the busy streets at the end of the day then this is the hotel for you. The hotels in VA beach are crowded and the rooms are full of sand. The Founders Inn is absolutely beautiful, it's quiet, and it has so many things to do on the hotel grounds. There are four pools that my two boys loved. There is an indoor pool and an indoor jacuzzi. Then there is an outdoor pool that has one of those zero entries so my two year old stayed in the opening of the pool because he could splash around with the water only going up to his knees. There is another pool outside that is strictly for the 20 foot water slide. It is one of those enclosed water-park style slides. There is also a playground on the hotel premises and tennis courts. Also there is a spa there where you can get pedicures, manicures, facials, mud wraps and massages. The prices of those services are the same as your higher end spas and have to be booked in advance. The room itself was very clean and the beds were comfy and soft. There seemed to be a moisture problem in the room which made it impossible for our bathing suits to dry when we left them hanging. We had to leave the window open for about an hour or two to get rid of some of the dampness. There is a common living room area in the main foyer of each hall which reminded me of my old college dorm. We had room service sent up to our room one night during our stay. The food was overpriced and not that good. The hotel is equal distance to the beach, the zoo, the aquarium and all the malls. It is surrounded by restaurants, grocery stores, a laundromat and easy access to the highways so it's not "out in the boonies". We called the lo

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 6 of 38Outstanding for the Price
Our stay at the Founders Inn was much better than my wife and I expected. The hotel sits on a large landscaped property with a lot of quaint and scenic spots just to relax. The location was good, about a 10-15 minute drive to the beach, and the resaurant in the hotel had great service and food. The rooms were old fashioned and cozy. I definately would stay again.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 10 of 38EXCELLENT HOTEL
We stayed four nights. We found the staff to be pleasant and accomodating. On site work out room and large pool area were great. We loved the homey and comfortable rooms. Beautiful grounds. Near all attractions in VA Beach. Just would like a "16-hour" coffee/tea service available in lobby or near by. Two cup coffee maker in room was not enough.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 12 of 38Nicest place to stay that is not right on the beach
Founders Inn is a lovely hotel with colonial decor. The staff was friendly and pleasant, except for the front desk staff, she was not as professional as you would expect. The front desk was also quite messy and did not give the best first impression. The grounds are beautiful and while I did not have time to experience the spa if the toiletees in the room are an indication it would be a good experience. The lotion was the best I have ever used in a hotel. My room had an air conditioning problem, which I did not report, but it was a loud when it came on. The toilet handle was also broken and had to jiggled. The hotel use to have a fast breakfast room that was very convient. It was closed and set up in the main dining room which made fast and convinent not an option. Also the orange juice and rolls tasted like the kind you can get at a convenience store - so I would not do that again. I did have a late night meal in my room which was good, but the tray had to be put on the desk chair due to the lack of a table in the room. The good outweighed the bad and I would rate it as a 3-4 star hotel compared to other comparable sized hotels/spas I have stayed, but for the location it is the best. I do wish movies on demand were available in the rooms as well wireless internet. Not having either did encourage me to do some reading however. I have stayed at the Inn in the past and will do so again due to the location to Regent and my family who lives in VA.

Very cozy hotel, great surroundings, room was very quiet and clean. Personnel was very friendly and helpful. Definitely a "must experience" if you are in the Tidewater area.

Had numerous problems with this hotel. The shower/tub had paint chips falling off the ceiling, and rust spots in the floor of the tub. The auido/video jacks on the TV didnt work along with the 3 ofthers they try to swap it out with. Entertainment center that stored the mini fridge had magnents for the doors in the way so you have to lift the entire front of the fridge up to open and close door. On my 2nd night when I finally came back to the hotel, I find that my keys have quit working and that for some reason I was only logged to stay for one night. This problem took about 10 mins to fix even though my reservation papers clearly showed 2 days from both the hotel and hotels.com website. This place is clearly the bottom line 1 star hotel of fully service hotels.

Love the beds! So comfy! There is an elegance about the Founders Inn that keeps me coming back. This was my second stay and when I go back to Norfolk, VA again, this hotel will be my first choice.
