No Faults, No Complaints, Everything I Needed

I should start off by saying that I saw quite a few negative reviews of the Silversmith regarding shockingly bad customer service, proximity to the "L" (and the loud sound of trains that comes with it) and the small room. I went from October 23-26 and I didn't encounter any of these problems. In fact, the staff was always courteous and helpful. That includes when we asked them to hold our bags on Sunday because our flight left at night but we had to check out. They gave us a baggage claim ticket so we could come back at any time and the doorman got our bags for us (he even apologized for taking so long because he had to help another guest in the lobby). We got a room that faced the interior courtyard and the sound of the trains outside sounded to me almost like a white-noise version of waves crashing on a beach (I'm from San Diego). It was actually really soothing and I had NO trouble sleeping. The room itself wasn't huge, but it wasn't small either. We had another friend staying in a different ($200/night) hotel around the Near North Side and when she walked in to meet us she couldn't believe how big our room was. We were on a middle-level floor and the ceiling was vaulted up to, I'd say, 15 feet or so. The TV was old and there wasn't much space between the bed and the entertainment center cupboard thing, but it's more than manageable. The bathroom was actually pretty large and the shower had immediate hot water and good water pressure (not quite as strong as a fire hose, which I like, but you can take a good shower). Our room was also located facing the elevators, and there was no noise from that either. I like a stiff bed and this one felt very good, if still softer than what I'm used to at home. Actually it's the kind of bed that works for everyone - stiff enough to support you but soft enough to be comfortable. The same goes for the pillows, actually. I've only been in one or two other hotels that had better beds and I travel frequently. Maybe the most impo

GREAT room for the price

Although the room was small which I expected, it was EXTREMELY comfortable. The staff was great, especially the concierge. Only stayed one night but would stay longer if we were able.

Great Stay

Hotel was easy off and on from the orange line from Midway so we never used a car or taxi. Michigan Ave one block away with Starbucks and Piaznos Pizza along the way. For the money and location, this will be our stopping point for future trips.

Great room for the money

I had no problems. Perfect location for visiting the top tourist attractions. Light sleepers - you can always hear the El train. I didn't mind it.

Close to everything

We just stayed in Chicago for a weekend, but the Silversmith was really exactly what we were looking for. The hotel is located less then one block from the Orange line out of Midway and just down the street from Michigan Ave. Taxis are available at any time and the price through Hotels.com was GREAT! The only real negative would be the noise from the train.... it wasn't loud enough to wake me up, but I could see it bothering lighter sleepers. The windows are extremely thick so it definitely kept the sound down, but it was still noticable. Would definitely stay here again if we make it back to Chicago. Great weekend!

Great hotel

The Silversmith Hotel was a great place to stay. We didn't bring our car to Chicago and there were both bus stops and the L train right outside the hotel. We also checked in a little early - it was nice. It was a great option and I would stay there again. The L train wasn't too loud and they are also trying a new program for saving energy. They ask that guests reuse their towels (if they want) and they will not change your sheets until the third day you are staying there (also if you want). I think it's a great idea for you to be able to pick that option or not. It's saving energy.

Eh...

I thought it was clean, nice, and had a great location in relation to the "El" and Millenium park. But, when I called to confirm our reservation the person on the phone was completely rude and I could not understand a word he said. The bellman were nothing fancy - in fact, they were sort of rude when we were checking our luggage. And, we could hear the "El" from our room. Overall, it was comfortable but I would probably not stay there again.

Very nice room

Room was great with separate living room and bedroom. Water pressure in shower was almost non existent. We could see and HEAR the L train that surrounds downtown Chicago because one of the stops WAS DIRECTLY OUTSIDE OUR WINDOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very convenient to all downtown attractions but the noise was terrible!

Don't drive and you will be fine!

This hotel is beautiful! Everything about the hotel exceeded our expectations, EXCEPT THE VALET SERVICE. My husband and I were in town for the Taste of Chicago, visiting with my brother and sister who live in town, I grew up there but moved away. We drove to the city as we had many plans for the weekend that didn't involve being downtown in the midst of millions of people. I think we surprised the valet service when we called for our truck late the first night we were there; when we got our truck our console had been rumaged through, and several things were missing from our vehicle. The hotel employees were very nice, but the valet is contracted out, and I can't say the same for their service. We are still waiting to see what they are going to do to compensate us for our loss. I suggested to the hotel management that they find another valet service to use!
