Trip Type: With Friends Review 1 of 15Good Place
We picked a nice weekend for late october. The hotel is in a great location. we walked to everything. The room was clean and has great views of the boardwalk and ocean. For the price we were very happy.

The staff at this hotel is the friendiest staff I have ever had. We had a small issue with the shower and it was fixed in 30 minutes.

Visited VA Beach for the Neptune Festival with a friend and the hotel was in a perfect location. Great view of the ocean, short walk to restaurants, I would definitely go back.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 4 of 15Great stay except for A/C issues that were partly resolved.
Don't let the exterior of this hotel put you off. As I checked in, which went very smoothly, I was worried about what the room was going to be like. However, the room had been recently redone. Countertops, backsplashes and shower walls are all done in polished granite with no mildew in sight. The common areas are tiled, with an area rug in front of the sofa. This is probably why the room did not have that musty smell I associate with rooms at the beach (wet carpet, you know). There were definelty issues with the air conditioning that management had partially resolved soon after the complaint was made. They did keep us informed about the repair status which required a part. The room was still comfortable, just not at meat locker temperature. Adequate cooking utensils, containers, plates, & glasses available. Can't beat the location, everything is within walking distance or the trolley stop is right outside. The price was fabulous & I will stay here again. Even friends who live in the area said that they would likely book a room for a night or two as a weekend getaway.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 5 of 15Check all Hotels
I planned a last minute trip and wanted to stay on the beach, we got a room on the 5th floor. The hotel was very old, check in the garage, only 1 elevator that was very slow! The hotel was in need of a make over. Room was very small, but served it's purpose. Small appliances didn't work and front desk didn't care. Walls are paper thin, we heard most of the next rooms conversation. No late check out. The wal way to the beach from the hotel was gross, some was sick and vomited the night previous and it still was there the following day! GROSS! Walking around we looked at all the hotels that were so nice and only a few dollars more. Lesson learned plan ahead!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 6 of 15Good for a weekend stay
Overall the rooms are ok, a bit small in the bedrooms but if splitting the bill with two or three friends makes the price worth it. Right on ocean front...30 sec walk and your on the beach!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 7 of 15Perfect for Beach Soccer
This hotel was perfect for an excursion to Virginia Beach for a Beach Soccer tournament. With the beach front location I only had to roll out of bed and down the stairs to get to my morning matches. It was smack dab in the middle of everything we were interested in doing and seeing that weekend. We sincerely hope we can stay there again in years to come. Parking was conveniently located on the premises. We didn't move the car all weekend so this was ideal. Hotel staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. No complaints whatsoever!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 8 of 15Great suite for the price!
I picked the hotel based on the on-line reviews & they did not disappoint. The exterior was a bit beat up & was a cause for concern until I got into my suite. I was in a 1 bedroom suite. It did not have the musty, beach smell, probably because the main area & bathroom floors were tiled with an area rug in the common area. Backsplashes in the kitchenette & bathroom were granite. Furniture appeared to be new. Adequate pans/plates/cups/utensils for making a quick, simple meal. Bedroom was small & OK for two people, but I couldn't see having 4 people in there. Sliding glass door was difficult to slide, likely due to salt air on metal, not an unusual thing. The A/C in the bedroom was not good, but was rapidly fixed when I brought it to the attention of management. It still wasn't the greatest, but I like it VERY cold sleeping area. The location is awesome - no need to drive since there are many places to eat within a few blocks or you can take the beach trolley for $1/ride or $2/day.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 9 of 15WORST HOTEL IN VA BEACH!
This hotel is by far the worst in all of virginia beach. I am a frequent traveler, and stay in many hotels. I have been to virginia beach over a 100 times and have stayed in many different oceanfront hotels. This time, I found a special for Ocean Suites and booked my stay for 3 days. From the actual room, to the service i received was horrible. First and foremost, there was bugs in our rooms and flys that wouldnt leave. We were forced to close our balcony bc of how many insects kept flying in. (mind you, i have stayed in oceanfront hotels and never had an insect problem) Secondly, the room was tiny. You literally are squished in this small room that has a door to an even tinier living room/kitchen. Not worth what you are paying nightly---whatsoever! And last but certainly not the least, the service we received was awful. Once I checked out, I wanted to do a last sweep of the hotel to make sure I didn't leave behind any of my personal belongings. While I was doing just that, a supervisor , bill c. decided to barge in the room and scream at me for being up there. I literally was in complete shock. I asked him why he was talking to me like that and he said you are no longer a guest at this hotel. I couldn't believe it. I told him I would report him (which I've done) and he proceeded to say that he didn't care. What type of service is this? THIS HOTEL IS HORRIBLE, DO NOT STAY HERE.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 10 of 15Cheap Place To Stay & Safe
All rooms are oceanfront, very comfortable rooms, pictures do not do justice for this hotel! The staff is very friendly and accomidating. The parking/check-in area is a little grunge looking but its all very safe/secured. Only downfall was that the pool was not open in mid-May, with the weather it would have been nice to be able to take advantage of it. Other than that, this place was wonderful, no complaints!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 15Friendly Staff
Upon arriving our room had 5 black flies flying around. This didn't give us too great of a first impression. The room suite looked clean and the maid service came and cleaned daily. The staff was very friendly and helpful the entire time we stayed. They even suggested great places to eat and go out. The surrounding area was very busy and during our stay in April, there were many students from high school and college on their spring break. There were many stores and restaurants within walking distance. Overall, we had a good experience.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 13 of 15Fairly pleased
I was very pleased and impressed with the place. The pictures on the website are actually an accurate depiction, which isn't always the case. It's really a great deal - inexpensive and great quality. The entire room was very clean. I stayed on the first floor next to the main office, which I thought would create noise issues, but to my surprise, it was very quiet during the day and night. My only minor complaints would be that the beds were a bit stiff for my taste...not horrible, but not the most comfortable and also there was no table in the living/dining areas other than the kitchen bar. So, it's not the greatest if you're trying to get any work done. I had stuff all over the kitchen bar, including my laptop and stuff on the sofas. Without at least a coffee table, the living area looked a little open and bare anyway. Like I said, minor complaints. Everything else was great. Great stay for the price. :-)

Trip Type: With Friends Review 14 of 15The Pros and Cons
We spent 3 nights at this location. Though it's called "Ocean Suites", it's actually a surface revamp of the old Ambassador Hotel so it surely showed it's age. We also had another group of 5 friends in for 1 night and, though the room could sleep 6, it was far from roomy enough to hold 5. PROs * Excellent location on 23rd street * Wonderful views of the ocean and boardwalk * Only had to move the car when we went to eat a Captain Georges on Laskins Road (If you love seafood, this is a highly recommended buffet!) * Parking was no problem (though spaces were a bit tight for a full size Jeep) * Staff were courteous and attentive * Water pressure in the shower was wonderful * Beds were comfortable and, though the pillows looked fluffy, we used our own. CONs * Room was much smaller than expected. As my friend described it, "There's not enough room in here to swing a cat". * The room had surface upgrades (new tile floors, countertops, paint, etc) but definitely showed it's age. * Bathroom was tiny * Bedroom w/ 2 dbl beds was claustrophobic and there wasn't enough room for our bags so we kept tripping over them when in that tiny room * Balcony, though nice, was not deep enough to move the chair so it faced the beach, unless you wanted your legs to hang out between the railings. * Only 1 elevator which needed a serious upgrade. (It was under repair when our friends were leaving so they had to lug their things down the stairs from the 6th floor. Good thing they only stayed 1 night!) * We looked at the pool but decided not to use it as it was a bit murky but they did do the chemicals daily. Overall, we had a pleasant trip and stay however, we will upgrade next trip.
