A really outstanding, well designed space.

I was passing through Tokyo for only one night. I'd been staying 'budget' hotels (though not by any means cheap) in Korea and Japan for about a month and I decided to splurge for something a little nicer on the last night of the trip. It was well, well worth it, and considering the relatively small difference in price between this place and others I'd stayed, it was a bargain. First, the view. The hotel is designed so that every room has a 'corner' view of the city skyline, and because it is set away from other buildings, you truly can get an amazing view- from the 29th floor, we couldn't step away from the windows. Secondly, the standard rooms are large-- really about the size of a studio apartment by Japan standards. Very spacious, and well appointed. The decor was simple all white modern. It was obvious that the decor had been chosen probably in the 80's during Japan's boom, and had not changed, but the quality and upkeep of the space made it seem rather timeless and 'classic' rather then 'dated'. There is a separated entry foyer and a very spacious bathroom and full size tub- and had every amenity, including an 'emergency' phone in case you have a health problem. Toothbrushes, razors, etc, plus a well stocked minibar were all available in the room. The room had fantastic lighting-- all on dimmers, which made the place feel much more comfortable than the standard issue horrific fluorescent bulbs that are in seemingly every other hotel in Asia I've been to. We had the opportunity to order room service at about midnight. Our veggie pizza, while small and very expensive, was very tasty and arrived in just a few minutes, and the staff was very friendly. The only con that I could think of was the internet. Every other hotel that I'd been to in Asia had complimentary internet, thus I didn't even look when I was booking this one. I wanted to double check my flight time the next day, but to my dismay, there was a surcharge for internet, to the tune about 17.50 USD, whi

Cool hotel

After reading some other reviews I had my doubts about staying at this hotel. Once we checked in however, Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka exceed our expectations. We stayed in a deluxe room on the 27th floor; it was great! A huge, clean room and bathroom with all the bells and whistles; the view of the city was amazing! For the money, it exceeded our expectations.

Nice location but antiquated decor

We stayed at the hotel based upon it's location in relation to Meiji Kinenkan (where my wife and I were getting married) and being centrally located. Overall the stay was pleasant with little trouble. I was disappointed that the hotel did not have a gym and that the condition of the beds was fairly poor (the matress was as hard as a rock). The decor was completely 1970's in orientation but well maintained and it was difficult to watch the TV as it was a 19" LCD TV that appeared to be about 10 years old. Basically, I suppose I would recommend that the property owners spend some money on rennovations. The staff we polite and made a point to speak English with foreign guests and accomodate any request. I was pleased that the hotel had a "green" initiative in that they gave guests a 1000yen voucher for each day that you did not use room-cleaning services (but not consecutive days). The vouchers can be used in the dining/bar facilities or the hotel shop. I have to say that the views from the hotel, especially in the evenings, were quite nice. Overall a pleasant stay.

Excellent location, Very good deal.

I have lived in Japan till 20 years ago and this hotel at that time was one of the top hotels in Tokyo. It is still a good hotel but because there are newer ones, the relative ranking has declined. However, for the price that is offered through hotels.com, this hotel is the best in Tokyo. It is very conveniently located, near a major metro station and you can go anywhere in Tokyo on metro lines.

AMAZING HOTEL

it was spectacular. The staff could not be more accommodating. The hotel was more like a 5 star. Had everything and more. The view was fabulous. The comfort, and luxury. Everything you needed was there and when asked for a map...the bellhop delivered it to our room without hesitation. So formal in the Japanese style of graciousness and respect. Not only would I stay here again, I will highly recommend it to anyone who travels here. The only drawback was that that it was uphill and if you have physical challenges it would be difficult. Even the metro/train station was nearby. It was a wonderful first experience to Japan.

Great Room Deal

I have stayed at this hotel several times before but always at company expense and never paying such a low rate. I notice that lately, the Prince chain has been particularly sensitive to market conditions and not hesitant about reducing rates to attract customers. This particular rate is unheard of for a four star Tokyo hotel and I diverted from my usual good deal hotel to this one for the best deal I've ever had in 30 or so trips to Tokyo. I did miss the free breakfast I usually get but the area easily makes up for it with Starbucks and their wannabes. Some of the best restaurants in Tokyo serve lunch and dinner. 150 meter walk to the well-serviced subway in freezing wx was a challenge but this was the only real negative. The hotel with unusually large rooms and staff was top notch as usual.

interrupted stay

Overall an excellent value. we were there for several days then interrupted our stay to go to Kyoto, returning to this hotel after the side trip. Hotel employees were very helpful;storing excess luggage while we were gone to kyoto. Happy to see us upon return. as an example of the outstanding service; I will recount an event. Wanting cold water I approached the Asst. Mgr. at his desk in the lobby. rather than send me to a fountain, he got up , went 100ft. to the kitchen of a cafe that had not yet opened and brought me back a glass of water.

Very large rooms

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights, went to Kyoto for a few days, and then came back for our last night in Japan. The staff was very nice about letting us leave our extra luggage for 3 days free of charge while we were in Kyoto. The decor in the hotel is strange-- the stark white lobby is a bit institutional and the furniture and rugs in the room seem a little off, but the room itself was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and enormous (by any standards, let alone Tokyo standards). We got the cheapest double room on hotels.com for both stays. The first 3 days we had a king size bed on a very high floor with a spectacular view. The second time we had a queen bed, but in a suite with a full separate living room, also on a high floor. All of the rooms have couches along the window, big desks and plenty of space for luggage. They also stock the rooms and bathrooms with every sort of toiletry imaginable, as well as pajamas, robes, slippers, etc. The location was very near the Akasaka and Nagatcho metro stations, and the staff was very helpful explaining to us how to get places (in English). The neighborhood of Akasaka is very charming when you venture off the main drag. It's worth leaving the hotel to eat, as all of the restaurants appear to be quite overpriced. I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially for the price.
