Trip Type: With Friends Review 1 of 52Very hip and fun!!
My wife and I were there for 4 days in October. We have stayed at the Amalfi, the Hyatt and the Ritz in Chicago. For the money, there is not better hotel in my opinion. The staff was incredibly nice, the rooms are very tasteful (if you like contemporary style). We wanted to stay at a hotel that was fun and had life. We are 28 years old so we dont go to sleep at 9:00. The rooftop bar is amazing. Great drinks, loud music (kind of too loud) but fun atmosphere. The restaurants are all incredible too. Overall it is where I will stay when I go back...

Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 52Great hotel, if you can afford it
The Dana was an absolutely lovely hotel. We got a pretty good deal price-wise, but still paid enough that I would expect the great quality and service that we received. It was in an area of Chicago that I am familiar with, so I liked the location. It's a few blocks from Michigan Avenue, near some very good restaurants. Every staff member we encountered was polite, friendly, and helpful when we needed help. The bed was very comfortable, but the room itself was a little too stark and modern for my taste. (I didn't like the bare, gray cement ceiling.) The room overall was a bit small, but as we didn't spend much time there, it didn't matter. We did not eat at the restaurant. We did visit the top floor bar/lounge. It was nice, but a little too young for us 40-somethings. Had a great view of the city.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 3 of 52Great Staff
The hotel was great but what made our stay was the helpful staff. Tim and Aleksandra helped us find things to do and our way around the city. It was also nice to have the reception staff remember our names and greet us as we came and went during the day. As we visited other hotels for dinner and drinks, we noticed a completely different attitued. The most notable was the millineum generation doorman more interested in texting then getting the door for anyone. Thanks again for the great service.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 5 of 52European style & moderately priced hotel
This hotel exceeded my expectations. It has been totally renovated with a european luxury style - full wi-fi, flatscreen TV, ipod stereo and open bath. Location was great though alot of road noise on the weekend. Breakfasts were scrumptous though service was slow so be ready to just relax and take your time. We went with a group and everyone was very happy. I would definitely stay there again.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 9 of 52Trendy New Hotel Needs to Work Out Some Kinks
As a business management consultant, I believe in taking note of lessons learned or constructive criticism to make improvements. As well, I have traveled all over the world and stayed in some of the very best and very worst accomodations. In which case, I fancy myself as someone who knows what she's talking about from both a business and a traveler's standpoint. As you read this review, please note that my fiance and I made the following points to one of the Dana Hotel's seasoned managers who AGREED with each and every point we made. 1. We arrived at the hotel at 9:00 PM and the music in the lobby was blaring loud. We found ourselves shouting with the desk clerk during our check-in procecss. Since there is a bar just below the lobby/registration area I understand the importance of loud music to create a certain atmosphere. However, in this day and age when volume of music can be controlled from room to room, we saw no need for such loud music in the lobby. The music was uncomfortably loud each night of our stay when we would return from our evening out with friends. Therefore, our suggestion is to keep the music "exciting" in the bar, but quieter by the lobby and the elevators so guests feel more relaxed. 2. There is a Vegas-styled rooftop bar at the Dana Hotel that caters to a very trendy group of people. However, this meant that very drunk people were entering and exiting the hotel all night long. As well, these individuals were using the same elevators as the guests. In which case, we found ourselves surrounded by foolish, drunk, snobby people, making fun of us or other hotel guests as we would go to and from our room. Here we were paying hundreds of dollars to stay at the hotel, made to feel uncomfortable by people who weren't even paying a cover charge for the bar. Moreover, late at night/very early morning, as the elevator would stop at various floors, some of these "trendy" people would yell outside of the elevator, slam doors, or make a ruckus in general.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 52Service and attitude = negative
The check-in process was quite unsatisfactory...slow, room wasn't ready at 3, the cell phone # wasn't called to tell us our room was ready b/c they got "busy" as a result we were late for a reservation / appointment. When asked about vending machines the response was, "there is a 7-11 across the street" - with snotty attitude waited 45 minutes for breakfast, was asked 3 times by 3 different wait staff, what I wanted for breakfast...it never came!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 13 of 52Great Rooms / Lousy Service
Fantastic rooms in a good location. Edgy industrial chic. Not for everyone, but I liked it. Housekeeping was good, but the rest of the service was atrocious. had breakfast in the hotel 2 days of my stay - 45 minutes and an hour to get service. Honor bar not checked once during my stay.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 14 of 52Most comfortable bed
The hotel had the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Absolutely fabulous. I was not thrilled with the view into the bathroom thru the shower. When the light went on in the middle of the night, it was quite bright, even with the curtain drawn. The rooftop bar was not what we expected. It was a very loud nightclub scene. We were expecting a quiet place to enjoy the view and have a drink.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 15 of 52EVERYTHING was wonderful!!!!
From the continental breakfast to the turndown service, everything was top notch. Totally exceeded our expectations [and we travel a lot and are very picky]! My only regret is we didn't get to experience the workout room and spa activities because of our Chicago activity commitments. Next time, though! We plan on returning to The Dana on our next trip to Chicago.
