Trip Type: Family Review 1 of 40Great location and value
Chancellor is a wonderful small hotel conveniently located in the heart of San Francisco-Union Square. If you drive to San Francisco, be sure to take advantage of the parking option which allows "in and out" privileges. Service is excellent although room was slow/late to be "made-up" the next day. After contacting front desk this was quickly remedied. Disappointed that we could not eat breakfast in restaurant during on our first day. It was reserved for a convention/conference group staying at hotel. However, the full menu was available in bar area and our breatfasts tasted great. We fully enjoyed the dining room on the following day of our 2-day stay. Typical of older hotels, rooms are a bit smaller than new hotels. However, the room was immaculate. And, we do not spend much time in our room anyway. This hotel is an outstanding choice - close to everything including the cable car stop.

Trip Type: Family Review 3 of 40TOP NOTCH HOTEL
Location is outstanding. Everything about the Chancellor is fabulous for anyone wanting to see all that SF has to offer. Cable cars at front of Hotel,Muni and BART about 4 blocks away. Very attentive and helpful staff. Rooms like most older hotels--small,but very clean, with all of the amenities. Great flatscreen TV. We spent a week in mid August and thought that lack of A/C would be a problem but it was not. Rooms on back side are quieter. Can't be beat for the money!

Trip Type: Family Review 4 of 40We Loved the Chancellor !
The Chancellor screams old San Francisco. We loved everything about the hotel except the lack of air conditioning. Sure the Bay Area weather is cool but the rooms only have a ceiling fan and are quite stuffy if you do not open the window. The Muni-Train runs 24 hrs a day right in front of the Chancellor and makes sleeping with the window open difficult. All of the city noises make for a restless night. We chose to sleep with the window closed and put up with the warmth. Our only other complaint was the maids disreguarded the do not disturb sign and cleaned our room anyway and woke us up from a nap when they came in the room without knocking. The food was wonderful and the bar was well priced and quaint. We would stay in the Chancellor again if we wanted to be in the downtown.

Trip Type: Family Review 5 of 40Room without a view
Great location and the staff tries to provide a comfortable setting. For the interior rooms, need to have one above the 4th floor or one is looking into a wall.

Close to Union Square. Although it markets itself as being on the cable car line (it is), it's impossible to catch one (they're too crowded). Didn't eat at the restaurant which is only open until noon but they do have room service. I liked it because it was small, quiet elegance, and not flashy like the Westin St. Francis. Room was comfortable with a nice view. Nice flat panel TV. They did charge for movies and no continental breakfast but I like my Starbucks in the morning which was right across the street!

This hotel is in a great location - many restaurants nearby. Room was small, but certainly nice.

Trip Type: Family Review 9 of 40Charming older Hotel
You get the impression of being in the 1950's. Small rooms but quaint, updated furniture and comfortable bed. You have to park off-site at 26 $ per day (to be expected in Union square). No Ac in the room but ceiling fan quiet and effective.

Trip Type: Family Review 12 of 40Great hotel and wonderful location!
I went on a trip with my mom and the hotel was classy, elegant, and very nice. Great location and area! The only complaint is the room six is a tad small for two people who are maybe not a couple. The twin beds are so close together. However, the hotel experience was wonderful and highly recommended for San Francisco!

Trip Type: Family Review 13 of 40Best Hotel Deal around Union Square
The hotel rate we got through Hotels.com was simply super with the Price Match Guarantee. A few days before our trip to San Francisco, Hotels.com sent us a summary of our hotel reservation with the confirmation #, address, check-in & check-out times, etc. and even the weather forecast during our stay. The Chancellor Hotel is diagonally across Union Square in a very convenient location. The cable cars are just outside the front door. The hotel check-in process was really short and sweet as they were already waiting for us. The room although a little small was very clean, well decorated and nicely furnished. The hotel staff was very friendly and very accommodating. Hotels.com and the Chancellor Hotel is a winning combination for us and we'll definitely go back.

Trip Type: Family Review 14 of 40Great hotel at a great location
We had no idea what to except from the hotel, since it was our first time there, but its exactly as what you see online. The room we stood in was nice, clean and had a good view of the city. We were surrounded by other buildings so we didn't see much of the street, but once we walked out, we were right in the middle of everything we needed. The cable car was just a couple of blocks down along with Market St (the main shopping street). All the great attractions are only a couple of miles away, if that. The bed was comfortable and we got a flat screen T.V. We did have to park about a block away from where we stood, since there's no parking, but it wasn't bad. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay at the Chancellor Hotel.

Trip Type: Family Review 15 of 40Very cozy
I have nothing but good things to say about the hotel. It is very conveniently located. The hotel is very clean with a very friendly staff. I've read reviews before I booked it and people kept saying the rooms were too small. I had no complains. It actually had a nice big closet where you can put your clothes and luggage. How big of a room one needs?!? It was a very cozy and clean room. That's all I needed and the deal included garage parking which is right around the corner. Thank you!
