They make you sign a paper that states in so many words that "this hotel is located in a party district and that you may experience some after hours noise". That was an understatement. Yes it is a party area and yes you get a little noise from the bars down below but it's the partygoers who have had too much to drink going to thier room that you haveto worry about. I guess a few guests had alittle too much to drink and got into an arguement on our floor a couple of doors down and started threatening eachother in a very graffic and disturbing way. I think I would pay a little more and stay a little further outside the gaslamp district.

NOthing exciting to report. Solid downtown hotel near many restaurants and entertainment. Great if you're going to the civic center or Qualcom for games. breakfast next door is awesome.

Staff was wonderful and helpful. Great restaurant next door that provides room service with great food. Roof top terrace was awesome. Rooms were a little small but nice.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 5 of 96Great Experience
My buddies and I spent a night on the town and what a great place to come back to. It's right in the heart of downdown and the kitchen was open after the bars had closed. Also, the views from the roof were great too. Great place to stay!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 6 of 96good hotel- small issues to consider
The hotel is so cute! It's very conveniently located in the gaslamp quarter. There wasn't a place to park while we were checking in, there's only one curb to pull up to. They told us when we needed the car to call about 10-15 minutes ahead of time, and then they complained that the car had been waiting for quite a while. Service was ok, not wonderful, but the hotel was fun

Trip Type: With Friends Review 9 of 96Great Location, A little expensive
If you're planning on spending a lot of time and you're on a tight schedule this is not the hotel for you but if all you need a room for is sleep and a shower this hotel is great. It's right there in the gaslamp district and is VERY close to Balboa park. A little expensive and the elevators, while quaint and historic aren't quick and fill up on Sundays, get up early or take the stairs if you need to be somewhere on Sunday around checkout.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 10 of 96Animal in my room
Hotel staff was nice enough, but the room was cramped and stuffy. After 30 minutes in the room, we heard a guinea pig squeeking in the corner of our room! Honest to god, the staff explained that another guest had been escorted out BY police earlier in the day for having chickens and all sorts of animals. The arrested guest called later to say he had left his pig, but the staff had dissmissed the whole thing because the guy seemed crazy. So here we had a guinea pig running around our room leaving droppings until someone on the hotel staff came and retrieved it. We were given a small appology, but nothing more. Many other options to stay at downtown San Diego, I would avoid this one unless it's a REALLY good rate!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 96Fabulous Roof Top Patio
Although the rooms are quite small they are very comfortable and functional. There are some suites available, 1010 is a nice one. The roof top patio overlooks the entire cityscape. The Friday night I was there the ballpark had fireworks after the game. What a delightful surprise. The 24 hour restaurant/bar (which was great) doesn't delivery to the roof but there is a market in the next block that has beer, wine, liquor and snacks. The hotel is within walking distance to everything and the front desk can arrange for any tours you would like to take of the city. There is a free airport shuttle but you must book it in advance.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 13 of 96Great location, resturant, valet, and service
Have stayed in the gaslamp distrcit before with mixed results, but this hotel was great! The 24 hour valet service provided great access without having to look for street parking at a reasonable daily rate and the concierge was very friendly and considerate. We love the gaslamp area and this hotel provided everything within walking distance. The adjoining restaurant was fantastic and offered a discount to hotel guests- what's not to like??? Great hotel for the price- would definitely go there again.

Because this was an older hotel, the piping and the showering experience was quite an ordeal. The day we were leaving it was impossible to get a decent shower without the water either scorching you or freezing you. The temperature fluctuated tremendously and honestly for the money that we paid, I would not reccommend it. I understand it is an older hotel, but there are some things that need to have money spent on. Not satisfied for being a Ramada.
