Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 1 of 110Great for a quick stay
We had a one night stay and the experience was great. The staff was more than accomodating and very responsive. The rooms are sweet. It is a vintage type of hotel but the character is great. The elevator is cool but really difficult when you have bags. It's all part of the ambiance though...worth a stay.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 3 of 110Nice but expensive
For the price my wife and I felt it was not a good deal. The rooms are tiny and not very comfortable. The security at the hotel was questionable as well. In the middle of the night another guest was shouting profanely as loud as he could threatening another guest and the desk attendant took forever to call police and send security up to the room. We did not feel that they put a priority on the safety of their guests. However we were there for a wedding reception on the roof and that was lovely. There was a great view and great food.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 4 of 110Dirty, but convenient
Great room to split for 2 couples, since it's basically 2 adjoining bedrooms w/ in room sink in each one.. However, there were finger prints on the mirrors, the AC unit in the wall started making weird banging/clinking sounds at 7AM, and the drains for in room sinks were also making weird noises. The clock radio did not work properly, kept turning on and off on its own. On the upside - hotel service was great. The Valet guy was nice, but not always at the front door. Had to circle around the block when I first got there twice before the Valet guy came out to park the car...

Trip Type: Special Event Review 7 of 110Very nice
This is a clean older hotel...the rooftop is a must see. Excellent choice if your sharing a room with a friend because you actually get two rooms with ajoining bath. Parking should be included.

Location of the St James was excellent for our business @ convention center. Staff was very heplful & friendly. Loved the split rooms with 2 queen beds. Would stay there again and recommend to friends.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 9 of 110Classic Look, Convenient Location
With all the O*** & H***** hotels around town charging 2 to 3x as much for a place to sleep, it was nice to find a quiet place to sleep. If you are looking to actually spend some time hanging out in a room, you may want to look elsewhere. Our room had a Queen bed and room to walk around it, a tight fit Restroom, etc. My fiance and I used the room to sleep & shower and a place to leave our bags. If that is what you are looking for, and like early 1900's look (which my fiance adores), then you've got your Gaslamp room.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 12 of 110Good Location, Small Room, Even Smaller Elevator
We were there for the S.D. Street Scene (music festival) the location was so convenient we were able to walk. The room was very small. It's an old hotel which adds a lot of character and sets it above the same ole cookie cutter chains. The staff was friendly. However, the elevator can be an issue for some- it's the original elevator and runs quite slowly and also is very small, only like 5 people at a time. Overall I would stay there again!

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 15 of 110Positively The Best
We had an adjoining room with our son and daughter in law. They have a 3 week old baby and this was a perfect way to help them with our new grand baby without barging in. It was private yet homey and we loved every moment spent with our family! The room service was excellent and the food from Brians 24 was the best and very resonable. 5 mjles from Sea World and we walked every evening to the different shops. We all wished we could have stayed longer. Everything was convenient and fun. We have already planned another trip and will again use Hotels.com and Ramada Gaslamp/St. James Hotel!!!!! Thank You !
