Trip Type: Romance Review 1 of 28Suited our needs perfectly
This hotel suited us to a "T" because it had everything we wanted/needed. Good food, good beach, good pool, great surroundings, etc. By the way, the breakfast buffet was really great. Although basically the same each day, there was a little something different every day just to mix it up. If we go back to Maui, we'd probably go back to the Sheraton because aside from being good, the price was good, as well.

Trip Type: Romance Review 3 of 28Nice place but don't expect personal service
We went as part of our honeymoon and had reserved a king bed, of course. Well, upon arrival we were notified that the hotel was full and we had been given an "upgrade" to an ocean view room but with 2 double beds. Sure the room was fine but when I called the front desk asking to be moved to an ocean view room with a king bed they acted like they had already done us a favor and suggested we call back the next day to see if anything opened. Ultimately we decided to just stay in our original 2 bed room and I let the front desk know. They still called the next morning saying our room move was ready. I just felt like the front desk staff were slightly rude and not at all interested in making us happy. Other than that the resort was great. Wonderful location right on black rock and beautiful beach. The pool was just ok. But the beach made up for it. We would go back but maybe will try the hyatt first.

Trip Type: Romance Review 5 of 28huge property
THe Sheraton is a really nice property located directly by Black Rock. It has one of the best snorkeling spots on the island. Every thing about the sheraton felt first class. The only downfalls were a lengthy walk to your room and high restaurant prices, but you kind of expect that when you choose to stay at property that is 26 acres and has a high end name attached to it. However, with the property being that big it never felt too crowded, and cheaper restaurant choices were a ten minute drive into Lahaina. Overall my wife and i were extremely happy that we chose the Sheraton and will gladly stay there again!

Trip Type: Romance Review 6 of 28Great place for the money
My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton for a few days during our honeymoon. The ocean view was wonderful and worth the extra cost. The staff was very friendly and accomodated us when we were unhappy with the first room we got. The on-site restaurant served fabulous food however, the restaurants and bars closed so early (9 and 10 PM, respectively). They charge a $25/day resort fee for beach towels and you have to pay extra for chairs and an umbrella. You can also rent snorkeling equipment. With that said, the beach was great and the sea turtles in the ocean were spectacular. I would stay away from their Luau because for the steep cost per person for food and open bar, I'd expect more than cheap vodka. Once we saw it, we cancelled our reservation.

Trip Type: Romance Review 7 of 28Excellent time get Building 6 if you are mobile
OK, I booked an oceanfront room and I guess we were upgraded to Building 6 on the 4th floor. There are pros and cons to this. The con is and I am not making this up is that you have to take either 3 or 4 elevators and over five minutes time to get to the pool or lobby so if you or someone in your group is not mobile or if you have really small kids to keep track of. This is becuase the building is on top of the cliff. The pro of building six is that you have the best ocean view in the whole state from your bed, not just the balcony but the bed. My wife and I slept with the doors open and woke up looking into the ocean. From the 4th floor, there is nothing between you and the ocean from the top of the cliff. From having other ocean views elsewhere in Hawaii, I can tell you that this view from the room is phenomenal compared to the lower buildings and a great place to watch a sunset. If being close to the pool is a must, I suppose choose one of the lower buildings. The room was fine, not exceptional and we had the breakfest buffet thrown into the deal where the omeletes were made for us and the bagels and lox were tasty, good service and good coffee. They have good bread in Hawaii. If you want to stay in Kaanapali, I think the Sheraton is the best and the Westin a close second. I thought the Hyatt looked a bit run down or aged and was probably #1 years ago.

Trip Type: Romance Review 8 of 28Excellent Deals
I don't know if it is the Sheraton in general or just this hotel that was aggresive at offering deals, but we found a great deal at this hotel as soon as their occupancy rates began to drop with the economic recession. We ended up with a fantastic oceanfront view room for the price of a much lower class room. Loved our stay, got engaged right in front of the room and would definitely go back. Only complaint was the hotel is beginning to be a bit dated with its linens and furniture, but nothing horrible.

Trip Type: Romance Review 9 of 28Expensive but not impressive
We stayed 2 nights in Sheraton and 3 nights in neighboring hotel Royal Lahaina (Kai Tower) and we liked Royal Lahaina better. Though Sheraton is ok with cleanliness, room comfort etc..when it comes to getting around in and out of hotel room, the area of hotel is so huge that we had to take 3 different elevators from front desk to our room. We felt like we are in a maze figuring out the exit. When we seeked help with directions from people who stayed longer, even they felt the same (confused). We felt that it defies the very purpose of the vacation which is meant to be enjoying rather than spending time in understanding the architecture of hotel.

Trip Type: Romance Review 12 of 28The BEST beach, excellent service, great views
In May '09, I stayed 4 nights in Kaanapali, 2 at the Sheraton and 2 at another 4 star resort. While the other hotel's lobby, pool and restaurants were exceptional (while the Sheraton's were very nice), I preferred our stay at the Sheraton. First, the view was better, and I believe that many more of the Sheraton's rooms offer a partial ocean view. Second, the Sheraton has the best beach (an opinion staff at the other hotel shared with me), and the snorkeling is excellent. Third, the other hotel stay cost an extra $80/night for the hotel alone, but after other expenses (for example, the other hotel charged for internet access while it was free at the Sheraton), the other hotel stay ended up almost an extra $200/night (valet was $20, while the Sheraton free parking was more accessible, breakfast cost more at the other hotel, and we didn't even take advantage of room service or the mini bar). If we had stayed on site for more of the vacation, the extra touches at the other hotel may have been worth it, but Maui is a great place to explore and get out, not a place to be a shut-in. Thanks Hotels.com for saving me some $$$.

Trip Type: Romance Review 14 of 28Great Hotel
The hotel itself was great. However, we booked a room with a balcony overlooking the water. When we got to the hotel, we were treated rudely and told that the wing that we booked was closed. The hotel manager the next day took care of everything, but I was disappointed that we were allowed to book a room that wasn't even available and weren't notified before we arrived.

Trip Type: Romance Review 15 of 28Very Nice
A beautiful hotel, beautiful Kanappali beach, beautiful pool. Stayed 3 nights and was impressed. Would stay here again. One note...I have seen other reviews of this hotel that says they give you a Lei & such on check-in...I guess they don't do that anymore so don't expect it. Service staff at check-in was very matter of fact. And not pleased if you decide to carry your own bags and park your car...but then again almost all 4-star hotels are like that. They were upfront about the $25 a day fee, so I was prepared for it and understood why. Since I got a great rate that $25 was no big deal. But buy your own water. They have bottled water in the room at $5 each..WOW. Can get locally for $2.
