Good location, with caveat..

This hotel is good value, especially considering how close it is to downtown. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel that goes downtown and also connects with some train stations. The rooms were spacious though the amenities were pretty basic compared with other hotels of this level. My major issue with this hotel was the surrounding neighborhood -- looks very run-down, you won't want to be out on the streets after the sun goes down. Still, you probably won't have to since the bus stop is right in front of the building. In conclusion, I'd be back for the convenient location and good value.

Great value - a nice surprise

Booked because of price and hotel.com reviews. Have to say after getting there we were very pleased. Location isn't the greatest, but it is real easy to get downtown (hotel is right off State st, which runs right into heart of shopping district). Friendly staff and nice updated atmosphere and room - plus FREE PARKING. One note - the "L" tracks are nearby, so you will hear that in the distance, but it is not so bad that it will keep you awake! We drove our own vehicle, but we did see taxis in and out often, so getting downtown or wherever be taxi shouldn't be a problem. We will stay again next year when we visit again!

Great Hotel

Found the hotel on-line and was hoping for the best. It was the best deal---And boy did I get my money's worth!!!!!! We had two double beds, and a sitting area. The bathroom was gorgeous, with a huge soaker tub! It was clean, comfortable and quiet since it was a couple of miles from downtown. Will definetly go back and would recommend to people!!!

Needs Improvement

The Hotel was nice, but quite far away from the "Loop Area", you need to take bus or taxi to go to downtown. The area around the Hotel was quite ugly and there were no places to get any food or groceries around. The room was dirty and even though we complained they didn't cleaned up well.

Decent for Money, Mixed bag of good and bad

Hotel is decent for money, but you can get better for a bit more, with better location. Lobby is nice, rooms are nice, but too spacious, with dated furniture, no couch for the TV (seriously needed), and carpets were stained. Shower was not great and the lobby food stand was bad. The stylist was nice and the free parking is great.

Great room for the money - stayed twice

I stayed at this hotel twice within 10 days. The first four night stay was with my wife for a vacation. Based on the first stay, I opted to stay the following week while attending a training class. The biggest draw for the first visit was the free parking. I paid a similar amount for a room in January 09 and had to pay $37 per day for parking. We felt the parking lot was great and safe. The only problem with the first stay is that our room was on the 2nd floor overlooking State St. I literally thought I was reliving the scene from "Blues Brothers." The CTA bus stop is in front of the hotel (normally an advantage) and the Green line runs across the street. We requested a room change the next morning and they graciously accommodated us. When visiting Chicago, we always buy CTA visitor passes and are very comfortable with traveling the CTA. This hotel's location is well suited for that type of travel and is also fairly close to the museum campus. As noted by other reviewers, the location has the appearance of not being good but a walked to Chinatown (4-5 blocks) and didn't see another person until I approached Wentworth St. When returning to the hotel later in the evening (10-12 PM) I seemed to always have company on the bus in the form of other people staying at the hotel. As for other reviews, I had numerous contacts with "the older women" at the front desk in the late evening and didn't have a problem with her. As to the amenities on the property, my wife would have appreciated a coffee pot but actually took the bus up to Starbucks one morning (on Roosevelt) to get her coffee. As many others observed, we are getting good value for what we are paying. When the area redevelopment is finished in a few years, we will look back at staying at this hotel and remarking what a bargain it was. We will stay here again!
