    The villa was ideal for this vacation, which included my significant other and a parent. Because it was a 2-bedroom arrangement, we didn't have to say goodbye at the end of the day and retreat to our respective hotel rooms: we were able to continue late into the evening in the living and dining rooms, and make meals in the kitchen while we chatted about our day -- just like we would if we were at home. The views are terrific pretty much anywhere in the property; if your particular room isn't high enough for a view of the Pacific, just take a leisurely walk outside and you'll find a relaxing spot in no time where you can admire the landscaping, the beautiful homes nearby, and the calm waters just beyond the complex. Because it's technically a timeshare, there are some hotel conveniences that you won't find here -- some bath products, for example -- but the other amenities more than make up for it. Also, there are a lot of families with lots of potential for noise (small children, active teens), but surprisingly there was also a lot of peace and quiet -- at least in our building. Finally, note that check-in isn't until 4p (fairly standard), but check-out is at 10a -- much earlier than at normal hotels. Fortunately we were granted our request of a later check-out (11a), but it definitely puts a little more of an abrupt end to an otherwise great experience.

Perched high upon a picturesque bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Marriott's Newport Coast Villas provides condominium-style accommodations in Newport Coast, Calif. The Villas are minutes away from some of the state's best beaches, Crystal Cove State Park and the artsy village of Laguna Beach. The hotel also is adjacent to the Tom Fazio-designed Pelican Hill Golf Course, one of the country's premier golf destinations, where Villa guests receive discounted green fees.

Known as the Pacific Riviera, the 7,700-acre Newport Coast community is at the eastern edge of Newport Beach, and encompasses the South Orange County coast between Corona Del Mar and Laguna Beach. Newport Coast features generous preserved open space, beautiful landscapes and multiple nature trails. Developed in the 1980s, more than 75 percent of the Newport Coast area is dedicated to open space or golf courses.

Designed to resemble a coastal Mediterranean community, Marriott's Newport Coast Villas is a 75-acre timeshare resort. The property includes several five-story buildings with a total of 201 guestrooms. Each unit is a beautiful two- bedroom, two-bath villa with a private balcony, spacious living and dining areas and fully equipped kitchen. Complimentary continental breakfasts are served every Monday morning. An on-site market offers snack foods and other convenience items, while an on-site spa provides massages, facials and other treatments.

The Villas features a central piazza graced with a sequence of fountains designed by HRP LanDesign and hand-carved in Italy. Landscaped walkways and view terraces beckon guests to take leisurely strolls. The property's three terraced and curved pools provide beautiful ocean views.

Other hotel services and amenities include complimentary airport transportation and on-site parking, concierge services, business services, front- desk safe-deposit boxes, multilingual staff, 24-hour front desk and tour assistance.
