Ambassador Hotel
I recently stayed at the Ambassador Hotel for four nights and can't say enough about how wonderful it is! For the price, you get a spacious, beautiful room (I had a seaside view - a must) and a nice breakfast at Salt every morning. I fell asleep every night listening to the ocean break against the rocks below. The staff is wonderful and will take care of your every need (Amanda was more than accomodating). Very good value for the price!...More

The Balmoral Hotel
The hotel is old but well kept. The part that is old is that it has real hard wood
doors and door jams and furniture that is
stained and shiny and beautiful. The
restaurant is of highest quality but not
the highest price. Those working there
are gracious and helpful. We stay there
every chance we get when in Durban, South
Africa. If we do not stay there , we make
sure we have some meals in the restaurant.

The Westcliff
the first two nights were plagued with power outages every 10 minutes. The first night I was told that it was the power in the area. On the second night I told them that everyone else had power and it was a local problem. They sent someone to investigate and found that the fuse breakers were constantly tripping and they moved me to another room. The problem was caused by their nationwide brown outs damaging the system.
The second room was tiny and noisy with workers right outside talking loudly. There was also a problem with the telephone which was not connected.
I was moved to a third room which was fine. they gave me a free bottle of wine.
The hotel is built on a mountainside and the only way up is by walking or taking their small buses. It is inconvenient to take a bus to have breakfast.
The place is ultraclean. I even saw them washing the cobblestone roads with soap. They responded to complaints within minutes. the internal restaurants are at least 2 to 3 times as expensive as the best in town....More
