Nothing can beat the beautiful location of the Serena Inn. The pool side is literally 10 feet from the sea, and virtually all the rooms have large balconies with hammocks and chairs. Although the bathroom was a little small, the room itself was full of character and spacious. The hotel provides a free shuttle every day to a private beach about 30 minutes from town. New Africa Hotel
The room was decent, but what stood out were the location (perfect!), the staff (incredibly friendly!) and the Bandari restaurant in the hotel which served brilliant food! There's also a good Thai restaurant on the 9th floor that has a great view of the harbour. The room rates are a bit steep but it's certainly good value for what you pay....More

Holiday Inn Dar Es Salaam City Center
This was out welcome to Africa moment. We took a taxi from the airport through the relative craziness of afternoon traffic in Dar, not really sure what we were going to find at our hotel. We got to the hotel and were immediately greeted with a warm towel to wash our hands and face and a glass of mango juice. Wow, don't get that service many places. That sort of service was repeated throughout our stay with polite english speaking staff, an incredible work out facility, beautiful rooftop restaurant and bar, halfway street overlook - really it set the tone for the wonderful considerate people we found throughout Tanzania.
