    Rocco Forte Hotel Astoria
    the hotel was just ok....maybe look for a good private hotel....hotel is full of smoke from cigarettes & cigars, but so is all of Russia. Also, the hotel food is way over priced....$100 for 2 breakfast buffets i thought was extreme...More

    Guyot Hotel
    The hotel presents itself as 4 star, but it's close to 2-2.5 stars. Smoked through, the smoke sips into the rooms from the lobby and the rooms smell. The Internet connection works intermittently, most of the nights being unavailalbe and with no IT support availalbe after normal business hours (if it's out on Friday night, wait until Monday, maybe). Breakfast is very simple with not much of a choice. A funny "soviet" thing is that some kind of a hotel manager eats breakfast in the same restaurant, typically surrounded by hotel femail personnel, and food is separately prepared for him, not what guests have to eat. Avoid unless no other choices available....More

    Admiralteyskaya Hotel
    Why pay more for those luxurious marble, granite and lobby? This hotel has all you need. Clean room and good breakfast. The hotel staff are all very helpful. Even with limitted English skill, I could see that they always tried their best to help me. Location is not the best but it was good enough for me. Tour operators usually provide free pick-up and drop-off from this hotel. If you take taxi from city center, it would cost you around 200 roubles ($7). However, please beware of taxi scam. I took a taxi from Hermitage museum back to the hotel once and it cost me 1400 roubles ($45). The ride was less than 10 minutes. The car was an old white mercedes and the driver was an older man. He insisted on using meter and I was not suspicious at all, but the meter was running so fast. Unfortunately, I was in hurry to go to airport so I did not argue much with him. My advise is that if you take taxi, please ask the estimate cost beforehand if the driver wanted to use meter. If the driver did not want to answer, simply take another taxi....More
