We were in Porto for one reason only: Port wines. This hotel was a bit out of the way and not in the best of areas. The staff was indifferent, especially the bellman, and the dinner we had was awful; poorly cooked, poorly served, uninspired and overpriced. The service was borderline rude. The dining room is small and that creates traffic problems at breakfast. Compared to our stays in the the rest of Portugal, these people were definitely NOT representative of Portugese hospitality. The room was large by other Portugese hotel standards and very clean, but was also well worn. The other issue we had was the availability of power outlets...there were none! ALL the lights were hard-wired in and there was literally no outlet to charge our electronics (phone, laptop, etc.). The only outlets were in the halls....More

Tiara Park Atlantic Lisboa (formerly Le Méridien)
The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful! It was very near to a place where you could get on a tour bus. A cab was always waiting at the door if needed. The restaurant was fantastic! Huge breakfast and dinner was what you would expect at a very fancy restaurant. Great price for a 5-star hotel....More

Hotel Pestana Sintra Golf Resort & Spa
The hotel is in a beautiful residential neighborhood. It was the first time after weeks in Spain, that I finally got fresh, clean air!! The hotel is gorgeous, a nice mix of old and modern. Breakfast is decent. Other room service food was so-so, but not outrageously priced. Very nice hotel staff, especially Susie in the spa. Also, they were PACKED with business conferences, which made sitting by the pool difficult, as they would all come out there on their meeting breaks. I really, really appreciated the fact that they let me use the pool before my room was ready. Two negatives- 1- The smoking! In the lobby, in the main lounge, even in the dining room (which is supposed to be non-smoking). This is why I had dinner in my room both nights. 2- The wireless didn't work in the rooms. UGH! This was a problem throughout the Iberian peninsula. I used the business center, but the next day it was busy. The concierge gave me an hour of free wireless in the lobby "as compensation". Excuse me, but she might want a refresher course in what proper customer service compensation is....More
