Royal Angkor Resort
We stayed at the Royal Angkor Resort in November 2008. The hotel is beautiful, and the ambiance very chill and relaxed. The staff is polite and well-trained. However, if you're expecting it to be like the Sofitel or a big international chain that costs 3-4 times as much, you will be disappointed. Their "garden cafe" has an extensive menu of thai and western food, but when we actually tried to order basics like curry they had "just run out of chicken" or had "no cheese in stock" for the croque monsieur. Considering that this happened two days in a row, to every member of my family, ...it seemed odd. They did try very hard though, and were helpful in arranging a guide (we just asked our taxi driver to stay on with us for three days as a driver). Overall, a lovely hotel with nice staff and a nice price....More

Tara Angkor Hotel
We selected the Tara based on the website, and we were not entirely disappointed. The hotel wants to be high class and of the boutique type, but in fact it does not succeed, at least not entirely. The decor of the lobby and of the other common areas is neat and modern, designed to impress. However the rooms are quite small with very little storage space. Our towels had big mended holes, and the temperature of the water in the shower was erratic, going from warm to scalding to cold without us touching the controls. The breakfast buffet was quite good, and the best thing was staff, who were very courteous and pleasant. That is until I informed them (with two days' notice) that I wanted to leave one day early, at which point they told me that practically the policy was of no refunds.
The neighborohood is good, and it is convenient to visiting Angkor Wat; and by the way at the spa next door ("City Spa" which is not part of the hotel) I got the best tradidtional massage ever. So all in all I cannot complain, as I got my money's worth, but if/when I will go back I will try a different hotel....More

REE Hotel
Nice place. Very friendly staff!! They even had bikes for us in the lobby that we could take and ride around the town in.
Its a large hotel with a huge pool. The gym is ok (not great but will do a very basic workout) but for some reason they dont light the pool at night.
PROBLEM: seems they have water pressure problems because the showers were terrible. Every 10 seconds the water would go from burning hot to cold back to hot back to cold...over and over. Made for a very difficult and unpleasurable shower.
Other than that, nice place. Oh...and the internet there is expensive if you want to go online....More
