Hilton Nairobi
The room was nothing special at all. No laundry service late Saturday when we got in or Sunday or early Moday morning before we left. A washer and dryer we could have used if the service was closed would have been nice. The food was terrible. One of the toughest steaks we had. Most meat in East AFrica is tough but I exspect better at the Hilton. Breakfast pastry, muffins etc were very dry. The pool had no water. Internet closed very early, why not leave it on all night?...More

Serena Beach Hotel and Spa
I spent five nights at the Serena Beach Hotel and Spa in September 2009 and highly recommends it. The hotel is right on the beach and some rooms actually have an ocean view. The service is outstanding and there are numerous activities offered on a daily basis (boat rides, acquagym classes, etc). I particularly enjoyed the Maisha Spa located inside the hotel venue. If you are considering pampering and days on the beach as the main theme for your stay in Mombasa, this is the place to stay. If you want to get a feel of Mombasa and hang out with the locals, the hotel is quite far from the city center and taxis can be quite expensive -- don't even consider using the hotel taxis. Depending on the rate you get, you may not get free transportation from/to the airport and this can also add to your expenses. But once, you reach your room, you know that was money well spent....More

Outstnding service, but the room was not up to 4-star standards. Color was dark and depressing, window coverings substandard, restroom average. Outside of the room, it was a find hotel. Nice gym, good restaurants, pleasant staff....More
