The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata
Located in Esplanade, the Oberoi Grand has always been a landmark in Kolkata. I was visiting Kolkata after a long time and was debating whether to check in one of the newer Hotels instead. However, I am very happy that I stayed in the Oberoi Grand. The staff (housekeeping, reception desk et al) was very friendly, room service was excellent and very efficient. The hotel is well maintained and looked better than what I remember from several years ago. I have stayed in five star hotels in Europe and the USA, but this experience was something else. There was a certain warmth and a feel of being welcome. I would definitely stay there when I visit Kolkata again....More

The Oberoi, Bangalore
The hotel was absolutely amazing, it was a garden of eden in the middle of a bustling city. The lush gardens, landscaped grounds, and quietness made you forget that you were in the middle of an overcrowded and hectic city. However, you could still hear the traffic in the room (e.g., rickshaw engines and the horn beeping), which I think you will hear no matter where you stay in the downtown area. The staff were extremely friendly and quickly responded to any need. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The restaurant and in-room dining food were great and reasonably priced when considering the type and price of the hotel. Although I did not have the opportunity to make use of the pool or spa, they looked very inviting and relaxing. I did have an issue with the first room they put me in, as it was right next to the elevator and I could hear the electrical/manual equipment moving the elevator up and down through the walls, which was driving me nuts. I requested to move to another room and within minutes they were ready to move me and they moved me to a room very far away from the elevator. Otherwise, my stay at the hotel was great....More
