Best Western Hotel Bulgaria
Hotel Bulgaria is at the best spot in Plovdiv, right in the middle of the Central walking street, in the midst of restaurants, shops, caffes, and minutes from the Old Town, which is a must see if you go to Plovdiv. The rooms were pretty nice for the price we paid, and seemed recently remodeled. That was the case with the "luxury" rooms, not sure if the same was true for their "standard" rooms. The air conditioner really worked, which is not something you can safely assume for hotels in Bulgaria even if they claim they have air conditioners in the rooms. So, that part was great! Similarly to most hotels in Bulgaria, you get two twin size (as opposed to queen) beds if you have two people stay in a room. Most of the time when they hear that two people will stay in a room, they assume that the guests are a couple, and therefore the beds are put together. After experiencing this in a previous hotel, I called hotel Bulgaria in advance to make sure the beds were separated for me and my roommate, and they were indeed, however, noone had bothered to clean to carpet that was very dirty where the two beds used to be together. No maids were availble at the time of the day we arrived (7pm) to clean the room. In addition, there was noone at the door of the hotel to help with bringing our luggage up to the rooms and with 6 of us and tons of luggage and a very very small elevator getting to our rooms took longer than it should have. In general seemed like the only staff available to you after 5pm were the two receptionists. Overall, not a bad experience, I would definately stay there again, because you can't beat the location!...More
