    Sveta Sofia
We wait for a long time at the reception to check in, because there is one person at the reception and maybe 10 guests needing to check in. Then we check in and the standard rooms are very very very small. Two twin size beds for two guests. Bathroom has no bathtub, just a small shower cabin. Air conditioning doesn't work properly. We ask to upgrade to luxury rooms once we come back from dinner. 10pm we change rooms. We need two separate beds, but the two twin size beds are put together with one king (or queen) size sheet covering them both. Me and my roommate separate the beds ourselves, and call downstairs to ask for separate twin size sheets. We are told by the receptionist that we need to wait maybe about 30-40minutes, because the only other person who works the night shift (a bell boy) is out to pick up some guest from the airport). The girl can't leave the reception unattended in order to bring us sheets. I offer to go downstairs and stay at the reception for her, so she can take care of the sheets for my guests (a small group of 6). She agrees, and then proceeds to tell me she'll need to take sheets from other beds in unused rooms (clean sheets, thankfully), because the maids are gone for the day and she doesn't have access to the closet where the sheets are kept. Bottom line is I was a reception girl for 10-15minutes, so she can take the time to bring the right size sheets to the rooms. The luxury rooms can barely meet the standard of a two star hotel here in the States. According to the website, Sveta Sofia is a 4 star hotel...Definately not! This was the beginning of our 10 day tour, and we were supposed to end the tour at that same spot, so I have booked the same hotel. After experiencing this, I cancelled our stay for the last night and found an alternative hotel. Bottom line, poor amenities and way under staffed....More

    Hotel Alba
Hotel Alba is in a very good location in Sunny Beach. A bit difficult to find, due to a number of streets being closed up to become parking lots. It's definately a place you don't want to wander around by car, but we had to since we had all of our luggage. The service at the hotel was better than hotels at other locations in Bulgaria. Maybe due to the fact that Sunny Beach is mostly a place for foreign travellers who have higher expectations from the service compared to the locals. The rooms were fairly basic, but pretty big size, with big balconies overlooking the promenade street and the Black Sea. Twin size beds like all of the hotels we stayed in in Bulgaria, so we were already used to it. No soap/shampoo/lotion, etc. bottles in the bathrooms, not just our room, every room. Not sure what that was about, and apparently they think that one towel per guest is all you need... All in all, it was ok. And definately worth it for the price I paid. Next time I'll probably search for another hotel though, maybe a little more fancy, Sunny Beach is the kind of place that makes you want to splurge a little bit :)...More
