    Rendezvous Observation City Hotel
    This hotel may have been three and a half stars ten years ago, but it is sorley in need of maintenance and updating now. We had to call housekeeping to clean our windows so we could see the view. It's no more than two stars....More

    The Lakes Cairns Resort & Spa
    The Lakes was very impressive. The grounds are far more attractive than the pictures showed them to be. We stayed at the hotel twice during our trip to Australia -- the second time we had a nicer room on the 2nd floor with a beautiful enclosed patio overlooking the pool. We had 5 of us in a 2 bedroom suite (3 adults and 2 kids) which was more than enough room -- it would have been nice to have 2 bathrooms, but it served our purposes well and the hotel provided a roll-away bed that was comfy and clean for my youngest son. The "spa pool" was luke-warm and we were a little disappointed not to have a hot tub, but it was a minor thing given how wonderful the rest of the hotel was. We were there in July so the pools were a bit chilly for swimming but we did it anyway. The hotel location is good as well since it is close to the airport and easy to get in/out of with a rental car. It isn't close to downtown, but we didn't spend much time downtown so that didn't bother us. The front desk was great and very helpful -- with internet service and a nice store with cereal, milk, and basic staples to save you the need for a trip to the store....More
