Clean room, plain decor, no pool. Safe neighboorhood. "Industrial" view.

Trip Type: Family Review 7 of 47Over-Nite stay with family
I had stayed here by myself previously - and chose the hotel when my family and I needed an over-night stay on our way to the beach. The hotel is clean, large rooms and comfortable. In the morning we found we had no hot water in the shower and the hotel provided us another room without any problem.

The hotel was very nice and the service was great, but you would never know it by where it is located - not in downtown Charleston

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 9 of 47Needs staff improvement, facilities are great
The hotel room was very very nice. When we arrived the hotel clerk was outside smoking a cigarette and we had to wait for him to return to the desk to check in. In the morning the desk clerk preferred to go and talk with someone in the back office rather than service the line at the front desk (two people were waiting and one gave up). I had to go and retrieve her to check out. Also, housekeeping was going around and waking everyone up at 8 a.m. by knocking on doors (on a holiday morning!) The room was very nice, comfortable, quiet and the breakfast was very good, too. Just a note - the pool is not actually in the hotel it is in the hotel next door (they have a pool sharing agreement with the Ramada). So if you want to swim it may be a bit inconvenient for you.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 10 of 47Great Price and Quality compared to In-Town, and just as Convenient!
Easy in, easy out. Just hop on the Interstate and you are in town within less than 5 minutes. I found it more convenient than where our team stayed in town...and a much nicer hotel, yet at a lower price. I've stayed in several hotels in town over the past few years, and I think I've found the place I will stay from here on. Thank you!

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 12 of 47Better than many of the alternatives
I'm a hotel snob. I expect cleanliness and good service, and I got both from the Wingate in South Charleston. My mother and I stayed at the Wingate for 3 nights with my 3 month old daughter. We found the hotel staff very accommodating and friendly. I've seen several reviews about the safety and security of the parking lot. I didn't have any problems at all, nor did the area look or feel unsafe to me. There's a school and a church across the street and another hotel with a comedy club next door. We came in and out at all hours of the day and night and didn't have one scary encounter or see any questionable people. I also read several reviews mentioning railroad tracks. We were in a room on the top floor and the train didn't bother me at all--and I'm a very light sleeper. We really enjoyed the free fountain soda and juice as well as the complimentary breakfast. We have to return to Charleston in 2 months and plan on staying at the Wingate again. For the price, it's unbeatable.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 15 of 47Brought friends
Our visit was the second time in a month we stayed at the Wingate. Our good friends wanted to visit Charleston so we brought them along and when they ask where was a nice place to stay, we immediately told them the Wingate. They were equally pleased with the facility.
