Windsor Excelsior Hotel

Nice Location

We weren't sure what to expect, so the hotel worked fine for a long holiday weekend for a couple of friends. The Hotel is directly on the beach and the main road in front of the beach which has a lot of interesting foot and cycle traffic. We had no problems getting to any of the other sites in Rio from here. The hotel front desk staff was very helpful and was able to arrange transportation to anywhere we wnated to go and give us relevant information. They also arranged a late checkout for us on our last day when we had a late flight out of Rio. The room was unremarkable and relatively small but clean, fine if you only wnat to use it for sleeping. The breakfast was included and was a nice buffet. We had heard about safety concerns in Rio but did not have them at theis hotel.

pleasant surprise

This hotel is right on the Copacabana beach and three blocks from a metro stop. The hotel staff was very efficient and helpful, the room was clean with a very comfortable bed, LCD TV, and nice bathroom - but no tub if you care about that. Unlike many non-US hotels, the room A/C worked very well. On the roof was a nice swimming pool and bar with a gorgeous view of the beach area. The hotel also had a tent on the beach with towels, etc. Hotel restaurant was very good, both for the included buffet breakfast and dinner.

Great Location, Clean Rooms, Friendly bilingual Staff

Wonderful breakfast is included, and the bilingual staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is great, right on Copacobana beach and you can see the Christ Redeemer from many of the rooms and from the pool on the top floor. I would definitely stay here again! For the price and location you can't beat it!

For the money, this hotel is an excellent choice. Right across from Copacabana beach. The breakfast is excellent. The room was nice, spacious enough, and clean. I would highly recommend this hotel.

great location

great location, right in front of the beach plus the hotel provides complimentary beach towel/chair service. the staff was very helpful and nice however their prices for the tours are significantly more than going outside and booking tours from outside agents. there is one decent dance club in that area (maruizai or something like that) fun place and easy to pick up girls but all the bigger clubs are about a 20 or 25min cab ride away. all in all i strongly recommend this hotel if you want to stay in copacobana

Very busy tourist hotel

The location is excellent, directly across the street from Copacabana Beach. It's clean, modern, and convenient to local shopping just around the corner. My chief complaint is that it's a very busy tourist hotel with endless groups arriving and departing almost every day. At times there appeared to be well over a hundred bags and suitcases in the lobby. I found the desk staff multi-lingual, and relatively efficient, but cold and impersonal. If this doesn't bother you, then you'll have little to complain about. The bell staff and doormen were diametrically opposite. They were eager to assist with a smile. By far the best feature of the hotel is the lobby restaurant which is the epitome of a fine 4-star venue. The complimentary breakfast buffet is almost as good as I have seen world-wide. The lunch and dinner menus were varied and reasonably priced. The service is impeccable. Over all, it's not a bad place to stay.

Good hotel with a great view of Copacabana

Clean, comfortable and well located. The free van to the airport is a real bonus. Good value for the money when the rates are "on sale." Otherwise, they seem a bit on the high side, although maybe not by Rio standards

Great Hotel

The staff was wonderful. The buffet was above average. The location is as good as it gets (for semi-private beach access), right next to Copacabana Palace. It is a bit pricey especially since internet access is an addition charge. The room was very clean and comfortable. I had the room with an ocean view which was wonderful. The roof top pool had a magnificent view of Copacabana beach.

Too Expensive for small rooms

It is possible to stay in much better hotels in the same area for much cheaper prices!

Outstanding Hotel

Outstanding hotel. Location, service, cleanliness were all excellent. Dining facility and quality of food was excellent. The price was on the high side but overall, an excellent hotel.
