Trip Type: Family Review 1 of 18Value
This hotel exceded my expectations. I definitely think that the price is cheap considering the service, the condition and the location. The breakfast was also great.

so much more than we expected. book all your activities ahead pf time on your own, not through the hotel (took too long & they'd forget to call the transportation), but for hotel stuff we had an amazing time. Breakfast buffet was nice and the other food was good and priced good. would recommend to friends

Trip Type: Romance Review 4 of 18Excellent Value, Beautiful Grounds
Great location, excellent beautiful grounds, nice breakfast...comfy firm matress. Bathroom a bit outdated, but welcome to Costa Rica don't expect luxury but it was very decent and clean. only complaint the maid did not provide us with soap on our last day, luckily I had brought extra....to be fair I did not complain since we were about to check out.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 5 of 18Clean Hotel and Great Service
Volcano Lodge is a great find. The location is convenient, the rooms are comfortable and clean(though the walls are a bit thin - you might hear your neighbors), the staff is friendly and the service is great. I just came back from our trip (in late May) and the views of the Arenal Volcano from the Volcano Lodge hotel was great, especially in the morning when the sky tends to be clearer. You can see the top of the cone and the green and gray/black side of the volcano very clearly. It's a wonderful view when you are having breakfast with the volcano in the backdrop. There are two dinning areas on this hotel property that serves anything from burgers and sandwiches to traditional Tica meals. The hotel rooms are also equipped with air condition and a hair dryer. There's also a small trail around the hotel property which you can walk around and see some birds (ie. hummingbird), cows, horses and we also saw one donkey - all on the otherside of a fence. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay at Volcano Lodge. Thank you especially to Susana at the front desk, for being so accomadating and helping my friends and I with arranging our tours and ride back to San Jose. Kudos to the hotel for having a comprehensive list/handout summarizing the different tours with their prices, times, duration, etc. so readily available for the guest. Also, thank you to Eduardo for the countless trip of driving us back and forth with our luggage on the golf cart.

Trip Type: Family Review 8 of 18Grounds were beautiful
Gardens were outstanding. Breakfast buffet was OK. Dinner at their restaurant was good but pricey. Rainy season cut our visit short. Couldn't see the volvano. Couldn't do anything outside. Torrential rains for 2 days straight.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 11 of 18Absolutely Beautiful!
The gardens are beautiful. The rooms are clean and simple. The breakfast offers a variety of food. Try the fried whole Tilapia fish. Check out the creek that flows next to the property.

The Volcano Lodge was a decent place, the only thing I need not like was there is alot of noise in the early morning with the nature that surrounds it. So if you stay up late.....be prepared to wake up early with all the sounds, even you next door neighbor. You could hear everything!!!!!

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 13 of 18Cozy smaller hotel with view of Arenal Volcano
Relocated locally one night for better view of volcano in hopes of seeing night lava flow. Nice, comfortable room with a view to a local farm. Saw birds, monkeys, racoons off back porch outfitted with comfortable rocking chairs, although grounds needed maintenance. Wine & fruit in room a nice touch, along with the towel swans that greet you on the bed. Restaurant food a bit expensive, and continental breakfast really skimpy. While advertised as "spa" accomodations, spa is one service room curtained off to accomodate two clients and one bath used by all in spa. Pool/hot tub paled in view of those with volcanic hot water pools. Not a luxury spa hotel as represented, yet price was same. Big plus was referral to local adventure tour on the river, very nice and at good rates.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 14 of 18Does the Job
Volcano Lodge is a solid choice for the price you pay. It's a good hotel if you don't want to rough it but you don't want to pay too much either. It rained heavily both nights we were there so that "dampened" the mood of our stay - however it is in a rainforest so be prepared for at least some rain! The hotel location is good; it's about a 5 minute drive from the town of La Fortuna and the various hot springs (Tabacon, EcoThermale and Baldi) are all within an easy drive. The buffet breakfast was OK but the selection of food is not huge and I wouldve been tired of it by day 3.
