    Chichen Itza is far away from the main cities so my husband and I decided to stay somewhere close by to avoid crazy commutes and see the jungle a bit. It was VERY worth it. The hotel was great. The pool was clean. The food in the resturant was reasonable. The best part is that the ruins are literally 2 blocks away. The park opens at 8 which is perfect because the heat is intense. The tickets are for the whole day so you can come and go as you please. Which is good because the sun and all the tour busses arrive around 11. We spent a few hours in the park, when back to the pool at the hotel, took a nap, and went back when it cooled down. It was the best way to see the ruins. We didn't deal with the crowds and the heat. The beds were hard but we expected this. We are in the jungle of mexico.....what the bed lacked in softness, the atmosphere made up for in beauty. If you go to any forign country and expect it to be "just like home" then why did you even bother. There were iguanas sitting on the rocks and birds loudly chirping in the trees. I would go back in a heart beat. The free bottles of water were a huge plus as well.
