Trip Type: Business Review 16 of 29overpriced for the space
Hotel is in a good location, is well kept, and the staff are very pleasant. However, the rooms are so cramped that it is uncomfortable.

Trip Type: Romance Review 17 of 29Perfect for a long weekend in Paris
This was my 2nd stay in 3 years at the Villa Montparnasse. As I remembered, the hotel was very comfortable and in a fabulous location. The hotel was within walking distance of interesting sites and neighborhoods. Rue Daguerre (which was about a block away) was filled with restaurants, bars, pastry shops, wine stores, and supermarkets. My only complaint is that the hotel is not geared towards non-French speaking travellers, so communication with the front desk was a challenge at times (everyone was VERY pleasant and accomodating -- information just got a little lost in translation). There were no English-language television stations available and I couldn't figure out how to use the in-room telephone to make overseas calls (fortunately, there was a public pay phone a few feet from the hotel, which was easy to use). I would stay here again if the price was right.

Internet access only in lobby, occasionally in room. no iron/ironing boards available. Great location for dining and metro.

Trip Type: Romance Review 19 of 29Excellent experience
You can read all the other reviews to find the details of this hotel's location and other items, but I just wanted to give one point to the positive camp on this property. My partner and I had a fantastic 2-night stay at Villa Montparnasse. We happened to be there during the mid-summer music celebrations, and that was all a suprise to us, but what a great surprise indeed. Staying in this hotel is like staying in a typical Parisian residential neighborhood. This was my first stay in Paris, and being able to open our huge bathroom and bedroom windows to the sounds of live music echoing throughout Montparnasse was incredible. The service was top-notch. We did not run into any problems with the staff. My French is not very good, and they were all happy to speak to me in English. We made an attempt to communicate a little in French and I feel that is always the respectful thing to do when visiting another country. I like my long, hot showers in the morning, so I would have to say my biggest dissappointment was with the bathroom, specifically the bathtub, as others have written. It was next to impossible to take a shower without getting water everywhere in the bathroom, and there was really no way to take a shower without holding the shower head in one hand. Don't bother with the morning buffet. Based on the other reviews here, we saved the 18 euros each and ate at one of the many excellent local brasseries instead. You will pass several on your way to the Metro anyway. You can't beat the location. I'd recommend this hotel to any of my friends and family.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 20 of 29Good room for the value
This hotel was nice. It was in a quiet residential area near the catacombes. The rooms were nice, clean but a little small (but that is to be expected in Paris). We were lucky to have a small balconey with view of the area. The bathroom was a good size. My one complaint would be the shower. It had the hand held shower head which you could attach to make a normal shower head. However, given the way the tub was designed, I needed to lean way over in order to get any good amount of water to rinse off. All in all, the hotel was nice. I would stay there again.

Great location right off the RER from deGaulle. Lovely park view. What's not to like?

Small room but this is typical of Europe. Great location within close proximity of restaurants and subway. Friendly staff who speak English fairly well. Great place to stay if all you're looking for is a place to sleep.

Trip Type: Romance Review 23 of 29Buyer beware
The hotel tried to cheat us, by putting us in a standard room instead of the superior we had already pre-paid for. We made them switch us when we realized what they had done from the rate card on the door. Some of the staff was rude, and many requests that would be considered second nature at any 3 star hotel were denied or they had no one to take care of the request. The lacking service included: ==> when they did not have a room ready, after check in time, they refused to take our checked luggage up to the room ==> when a curtain rod came off the fixture they told us they had no maintainence staff to correct it "until sometime tommorrow" ==> they wouldn't accept a request for extra towels ==> they couldn't recommend a restaurant and had no concierge staff at all ==> They also stored our luggage and that of many other travelers stacked out in the open, unprotected in the lobby around the front desk. Room service was closed "for a few months for renovations", but we hadn't been notified of this and amazingly they had not made any arrangement with the local cafes and restaurants for delivery service I will say the hotel is in a nice nieghborhood, with many services, cafes, shops, and has very easy metro access. The rooms are nicely decorated.

Trip Type: Romance Review 24 of 29Suitable Hotel
My wife and I went for four days. Pretty good location. Not near any sites but near the metro and RER. A lot of shops and places to eat around. In a safe area. We never felt threatened and we walked around the streets until about 1 am some days. Room was what I expected. The walls were very dirty, looked like someone threw a cup of coffee around the room. But everything else was clean. Hotel bar was VERY expensive. They wouldn't let us check in until 3pm. That was kind of a bummer being that we were tired from the flight and hotels.com says 1pm. Overall though, we were pleased. Pretty good price and the staff was friendly.

Trip Type: Romance Review 25 of 29Needs Improvement
For just being "re-done" there was quite a bit of wear and tear in the room itself. The room was also very small. The air conditioning did not work. Some of the surrounding streets are cute, but just a block away there are some unsavory sex shops. For just a little more money, I suggest staying at a hotel that is rated higher.

The room was a little small. The front desk people could have been more helpful. I was lost trying to find this hotel after a day at a museum. A taxi driver did not understand the address of 2 Rue Boulard and refused to take me to the address. He said there was no such road. I needed help from front desk on location of hotel in Paris and not helpful. Front desk needs to be more attentive to the first time traveler to Paris.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 29 of 29A Great Hotel
The cleaning service of the hotel was exceptional -- we have never experienced this type of service before! The room was larger than expected and the bathrooms were awesome! There was a spacious bathtub, towel warmers, and a lot of surface space.
