    I was a little nervous about the hotel after reading some of the reviews, but thankfully, I was very pleasantly surprised. I was there for one night, flying in late Thursday night, so that I could tour the city for a day before heading out to Palo Alto for a wedding. The location was fantastic for this - we literally walked out of hotel and started the sight seeing. The reviews are right about the rooms being small, but we didn't need a lot of space. The room and bathroom were very clean, well appointed, and recently renovated. I do recommend getting an inside room. We arrived very late and there were none available when we finally checked in - the outside room, even being on the 5th floor, was pretty noisy. Other than that, this is a great hotel at a great price.

Location. Villa Florence hotel, located in San Francisco, Calif., transports the spirit of Italy to the City by the Bay. This boutique property stands along the Powell Street Cable Car line. Union Square is located one block from the hotel, while the theater district is two blocks away.

Hotel Features. The hotel's contemporary Italian-marble lobby exudes fashionable ambience while retaining iconic features such as a Giotto-style wishing fountain, a Medici-inspired fireplace and a 16th-century mural. Earth-tone color schemes and intimate seating areas create warm and inviting atmosphere. Kuleto's Italian restaurant is located adjacent to the Villa Florence hotel and reflects an old San Francisco vibe with vaulted ceilings, Italian-marble floors and warm lighting. The 40-foot-long mahogany Brunswick bar is intricately carved and hung with garlands of garlic, dried peppers and herbs. This Italian eatery offers breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. Villa Florence hotel provides complimentary wireless Internet access in public areas. A business center is equipped with a computer, a printer and a fax machine. The complimentary, 24-hour fitness room contains cardiovascular equipment, a weight-resistance machine and free weights.

Guestrooms. This seven-story hotel offers 182 smoke-free guestrooms decorated in contemporary Italian style. Custom-designed FeatherBorne beds feature 250-thread count linens, quilted down comforters and feather-top mattresses. Wireless Internet access is complimentary. Tech-savvy enhancements include flat-panel televisions, DVD players and iPod docking stations. Soundproofed windows open to invite California breezes. Refrigerators are paired with honor bars. Expert Tip. Unique to the Union Square area, the hotel's Bar Norcini specializes in house-cured charcuterie and locally sourced and imported Italian artisan cheeses.
